The Thought Thickens

added by King of Fuh 7 years ago O

"Well!" You say to yourself, putting your hands behind your head as you head back to your house along the sidewalks. "I gotta say, I'm very proud of myself for how intricate and precise I put all that together!"

You come to a crossroads. You look over in the direction to your house; just a few minutes walk away. You think about the video games sitting on your computer to get back to, or the TV shows you were watching, but you realize that you could spend your Sunday much better than that. While you wait to hear back from Madison, now would be a great time to go another random direction and experiment even more with the sapphire on fresh subjects.

For now, you'll play it familiar and go up to more random houses. You specifically target ones that have at least one car out in the driveway, and/or seem to have things going on based on what you can see through the windows.

"...hello?" A woman in her late 50's or early 60's asks after she opens the door.

The object here is to learn who all is in the house as efficiently as possible. You can place a command to have the lady tell you as much, but this has a risk. If someone else is in the living room and within earshot of you, they may hear your command from a distance, but--because it would not be targeted at them--it would not have an effect on them, and thus they would hear it consciously, remember it, and probably remember you. Whatever you do, you'll have to think quick.

~Tell me who all is in this house besides yourself~

"...just me and my husband." She answers.

"Alright," you nod,
~Are there any people planning to come over today? Tell me~

"Auh, my sister Carol is going to visit today."

~Tell me how old Carol is~

"I think she's 48."

Drat, only old people. Not really your spectrum of interest. It's time to bail on this one.

~Please let me in and let me speak to your husband~

She steps back and you walk into the living room, where you see an old guy over in the kitchen. You make sure to have eye contact with him, and you have his wife in your peripheral as you say,
~In 25 seconds, forget that you ever saw or heard me~

"Well, I have to be going. Thank you, bye." You say, shutting the door and fast-walking over to the sidewalk.

So that was pretty nicely handled. You could probably learn to be more graceful than that, depending on how much practice you get in covering your tracks like that. You made sure to calm yourself and not lose your focus as you approach the next house.

The next house is of a couple in their 30s, with an 11-year-old and an 8-year-old, both boys. You decide to pass on this for now, cover your tracks again and hit the sidewalk once more.

The house after that is an even younger couple with four very young children, so you pass on that as well.

You're almost at the dead-end of the street, thinking that maybe this wasn't a great idea, as you walk up to the last house you're going to investigate.

"Hey." A young woman opens the door. "How may I help you?"

~Tell me who all is in the house~ You command.

"Just me." She answers.

~Is anyone going to come over today?~

"My husband is going to get back from work at 7pm."

You put your finger on your chin and think for a moment.

"...uhhhh..." She tilts her head. "I'm sorry is there something you need?"

No more time to think it over.
~You feel completely comfortable with having me around. You are okay with letting me in your house like you would a close friend.~

She blinks, then smiles a bit and lets you inside.
"Hey hey," she extends her hand, "I'm Amanda."

Accept her handshake.
"I'm Daniel, nice to meet you."

You crash onto the living room couch together, and Amanda puts on The Replacements.
"So Daniel," she turns to you, "what brings you to my house today?"

"Uh, I'm just bored. I was gonna play video games but I thought it'd be better to go meet and hang out with people instead." You sink into the couch and tilt your head back.

"That's cool." She says in a low note. "So..."
She leans over toward you.
"...what do you want to do?"

What do you do now?
