Amy blinked at that with a great deal of surprise. On some level she expected the sort of "don't hurt my son" talk. It wasn't what one commonly thought of when a couple started dating, but that didn't mean that women couldn't take advantage of men just as men could take advantage of women. In addition, from what Tad had told her about his father's death, she figured Jen would be rather protective at times of her son. That made sense to her, especially with the memory of her own father giving Tad the riot act when they met. To have Tad's mother say she would make a good mother was completely unexpected and that left her blushing.
"I... uh... isn't it a bit early for that?" Amy asked, "I mean... we're only Seniors in high school."
"It's early for that, yes, and you and Tad WILL get an earful if I ever find out that you're pregnant BEFORE you're lawfully married," Jen said slowly and calmly.
Amy briefly gulped and then nodded.
"However, you've been understanding of my wishes and from what Tad has told me about you and your relations in confidence...I must say I am impressed," Jen told her, "and if you truly are what I've been told, I'd feel confident that WHEN the time comes and you and Tad have a family of your own... you'll be a good parent."
Amy looked up to Jen Decker, still blushing with embarrassment and nervousness, "well... if and when that comes, I'm sure that Tad will be just as good a father as you think I'll be a mother. You and your husband taught him well and you have plenty of reasons to be proud of your son."
Jen smiled at that. It felt as though there was some mutual understanding between her and Amy, which was good. It helped give her confidence that the future would be fine for her and her son. Lionel Ulysses had been caught and while he might not have lived long enough to see a judge, Jen was privately sure that he wasn't enjoying the afterlife. A part of her wondered who could have killed the wererat, and that part of her had some nervousness that it would further draw attention to the mysteries in arrest of Ulysses and how it went down, but she knew she and Tad were safe and that was all that mattered.
"There is plenty that I'm proud of him for," Jen smiled, "thank you. And I must say that your brothers have been very polite company."
"They haven't been too weird for you?" Amy asked.
"Weird?" Jen raised an eyebrow.
"Typical kid brother stuff," Amy clarified, "that sort of thing."
"No... very polite," Jen commented, "though also somewhat curious by what you and my son were doing..."
"I'm sure they know about sex and all that," Amy commented, knowing that her parents, while they did plan to work with regard to Tad's advice if her brother's transformed before the known signs of a coming first transformation occurred, did have plans for and had been trying to secure someone who could help her brothers with regard to their first transformations when they came. And in Moon Lake, that often included the young were's "first time" to make sure the transformation wasn't painful.
"They may know about the concept," Jen nodded and put one hand on Jen's shoulder, "but that doesn't necessarily mean they want to associate you with sex. You're their big sister and they're still young enough in age that certain things haven't come yet..."
"They might come soon," Amy thought but didn't vocally answer Jen.
"I didn't tell them directly and will leave THAT to you," Jen commented, thinking to her commentary to Jen's brothers with regard to their question about what they'd heard and essentially telling them that she would be talking with Amy afterward. Jen took a deep breath and then continued, "though you may need to clarify what I did say in response. Let them know that I was only thinking of making sure my son isn't hurt by anything."
"Of course," Amy nodded, "thank you."
Of course, neither Jen nor Amy really know the complex risks and threats that still loomed over them as a result of what had happened that morning in Seattle.
