(Side Note: I've been wanting in on the whole "Moon Lake" phenomenon since it started. I didn't really get serious about this site until about four months ago, so by the time I realized I wanted in, the whole story was.... 450+ chapters long. I don't have the time to read all of that, so I'm just diving right in, no prior reading expect the first chapter of the thread and the previous chapter. I didn't want to start on another family cause I know virtually nothing about them, so this probably piss-poor chapter starts with Nate and Eric discussing their mother's actions. It would be really helpful if someone could post some kind of guide that lists the major plot points of the series and the major/minor characters. I really want to be a part of this historical story for this site. Me and TheMaskedWriter's short thread, "New Lion Neighbors" seems to be going nowhere, so I'm jumping in. I'd also like to thank TheMaskedWriter for posting on that and this thread, along with the countless others. If I fuck something up, feel free to tell me in the next chapter after this one. I'd also like to apologize if that said event happens. Also feel free to tell me what you think of my writing. On with the story!)
Later that night, after Martha had gone to bed, Nate was in the den watching Friends when Eric walked in, leaned against the doorframe, and crossed his arms. Sensing the coming discussion, Nate switched off the TV, leaving them in the dark room lit only by the flickering light from the fireplace.
"So... what do you think of Mom inviting someone we know barely about to live in our house?" Eric asked in a casual voice. "I all honesty, I don't know." Nate said, leaning back on the sofa cushions. "I guess I wouldn't mind it if I knew more about her. Like what kind of were is she? Does she have any family? Why is she having trouble paying for her apartment? I'm at least grateful that she's wanting us to meet her instead of just moving her in blind."
Eric shrugged. "I'm just happy for mom. Ever since Dad died, she's needed companionship. She sure went from calling her 'Coach Johnson' to 'Kat' pretty quick." Eric laughed. "I wonder if her name is any indication of what kind of were she is." The two fell silent for a moment, watching the fire pop and crackle in the fireplace.
Nate suddenly grinned. "Dude, I totally smelled Cassie on you. You sly wolf." Eric laughed and said, "Oh yeah? You're gonna have to shower for weeks to get Alex outta your fur." The two brothers laughed at their own jokes for a while before Nate yawned. "Boy, am I tired. Best get going." Nate got up from the sofa and walked past Eric towards the front hall.
Eric followed him, grabbing his coat from the closet by the door as Nate did. They quietly opened the door to Martha's house and closed it behind them. The moon was out, huge and full in the bright blanket of stars. They walked down the porch steps, each heading in opposite directions: Nate towards the hill, Eric towards the wooded trail behind the houses. Nate turned and made finger guns to his brother. "See ya later, bro." He called. Eric turned and waved, and headed back down the trail being swallowed by the shadows of the trees as Nate started up the hill.
