Alex went through the rest of school that day itching at his jeans as he could feel the hair growing thicker and thicker. He eventually took a moment to take his shoes and socks off only to see that the hair was begging to spread to the tops of his feet as well. Soon he would be in a similar boat to Chris, unable to wear any long pants too school and everyone would soon find out that he too was changing. Alex then began to panic a bit, while it was clear he had the infection, he hadn't quite worked out how to reveal it to his family.
As the bell rang and everyone made their way to the exit, Alex spotted Chris and in a bit of nervousness asked Chris if he wanted to walk home together. Chris had clearly gotten to a point in his change that his family must know so perhaps he could get some advice or at least talk to someone who understands what's happening. Alex quickly ran and flagged Chris down.
Chris pretty quickly agreed to walk with him since they both lived in the same direction. After a few blocks of walking their was no one around so Alex finally said, "Do you mind if I show you something?"
They both stopped, "Sure what is it dude?" Chris asked while itching behind his ear where you could see his blonde hair extending down into his increasingly monkeyish sideburns.
Chris took a breath and pulled up his pant leg; revealing a leg almost if not as hairy as Chris's. "Holy crap dude!" Chris exclaimed. "I had a feeling in gym class, but this confirms it."
"It's even worse,"replied Alex while removing his shoes and socks to reveal the brown hair now covering the tops of his feet and toes.
Chris began to remove his own socks and shoes to reveal similarly hairy feet. "Wow dude that was fast for you," Chris remarked.
"I know," Alex said nervously, that's part of why I wanted to talk with you. Like how am I supposed to reveal this to everyone?"
"That's a hard one man," said Chris as both boys sat down on a nearby bench, "see I guess I'm kinda lucky my parents live abroad and really just check via skype every few weeks. I figured I'd just finish changing then tell them. Surprise them with their monkey son."
"Sorry man I didn't know that. If I did I never would have asked," Alex stated while guiltily looking down at his and Chris's harried legs and feet.
"No problem dude," replied Chris,"It's actually kind of cool to meet someone in a similar situation. It even looks like we're becoming the same type of monkey man hybrid. If you were a big gorilla like Erik you'd know it by now."
"At least we have something to be grateful for," remarked Alex.
Both boys half-laughed, then Alex felt a sharp pain in his feet and at the base of his spine. As he hunched over to grab his feet he noticed Chris in a similar state as well. Their feet began to contort and after around thirty-seconds had reshaped themselves into hairy prehensile monkey feet, one pair brown and the other blonde. About ten-seconds after that a brown furred and blonde furred tail shot from the base of both boys' spines and began moving as if they had a life of their own.
Alex, quite panicked at this point, began looking over himself and Alex, not as panicked, but still quite shocked at this new rapid development in their condition. Alex was still less the monkey as Chris had much hairier arms and sideburns beginning to form, but below the waist they were both pretty evenly matched.
"I'm not sure what to do," Alex said in a panic, "I can't go home like this! I have a tail!"
"It's gonna be alright dude," Chris replied with a bit more calm,"my place is closer and we have a spare room, you can crash there tonight. Just tell your parents we have a large study project and you need to stay the night. We can calm down and work out what to do tomorrow." Alex nodded his head in agreement. The boys then grabbed their previously discarded shoes and socks and ran barefoot to Chris's house with their new tails swaying behind them.
