As you burst into the clearing, you are shocked to see Denise's car all banged up in the front with the driver side door wide open and the headlights shining twin beams of light across the clearing. You slowly approach the car, seeing no sign of your date. The incessant dinging notating that the key was still in the ignition and the lights were left on gets louder the closer you get. You also start to notice claw marks scratching the paint and that the windshield is cracked. Your heart stops as you check the area around the car, seeing the grass trampled and leading back the way you came. Your eyes follow the trampled grass back towards the woods when you see something appears to be smeared on some of the stalks of grass. You lean over and wipe some of the mystery liquid, still wet, off the grass. It's too dark to tell what it is so you walk over to the car and place your hand in front of the still blazing headlights. To your shock, it's red...and clearly blood.
"Oh shit," you whisper. It was then that you remembered what had been momentarily forgotten, which was that something was chasing you. You run around the side of the car and jump into the driver's seat, closing the door behind you. You hit the button for the power locks and try to turn the car on. The engine makes a low rumbling noise, but doesn't turn over. You try it again with the same result, despite your pleas for it to work. You pause for a moment and try it a third time with the same noise. You hit the steering wheel in frustration. "Dammit Denise, why couldn't you have just driven us home!"
You look around out of all the windows of the car trying to see what, if anything was going on outside the car. There was no sign of anything that you could see. You pulse is racing and your breathing quickening. Despite not seeing anything, you know something is out there. You pull out your cellphone from your pocket and unlock it. The battery is low is all that comes back and you let out a sigh of frustration, returning it to your pocket since you already know Denise doesn't have a car charger. You lean the seat back and climb into the back seat of the car. You pull on the latch and fold down the back seat, giving you access to the trunk. You climb into the trunk, feeling around and finding the two things you were looking for, a tire iron and the LED flashlight Denise kept stashed back there. You place the tire iron and the flashlight on the passenger seat and then climb back into the front seat. Just to be sure, you try the engine one more time. More whirring, but no action.
"You car sucks, Denise." You pick up the flashlight and the tire iron, knowing you now have to try and make a run for it. You slowly open the car door and step out. You glance around the field, looking for any sign of life, either good or bad but see nothing. You decide that even though it seems like a terrible idea, going back to the road you were on is the best chance of finding help. You take a deep breath and head for the woods.
You move at a brisk pace as you follow the rough path back to the main road, holding tight to the tire iron in your hand. You can feel the brambles and fallen branches brush against your legs as you force your way through the brush. You can see the road you were on just up ahead and keep moving towards it. You are just about to make it when a figure leaps on top of you, causing you to lose your footing and you both fall to the ground. You scream and start beating the figure with the tire iron out of shock and surprise but find yourself stopping when you realize it's...
