Moon Lake...Tad: Working To Go Back To Work

added by s1 7 years ago O

Jen's day was fairly calm as she went about her own day. The threat of weres being exposed was in the back of her mind, but for the moment, what had happened in Seattle didn't seem to touch Moon Lake directly. Things might be a bit difficult for a while, but she also knew that Moon Lake had gone through similar scares before in the past and came out unhurt. In that, she had a fair bit of confidence that Moon Lake's track record in these things would come out fine as they always had. With that in mind, she went about her own work for the day to make sure she would be able to re-enter the job force and provide for herself and Tad.

The first part of her mission was to dust off her resume and put it in a way that would allow her to get things back together for the work that she'd be qualified. Her qualifications hadn't changed, but with time the format that she had used in the past might not apply so she made her way to Moon Lake college and check in with their career center, see if they would have any good tips for resumes and so on. She made a few calls to old employers to make sure they remembered her and were okay with being references for her, along with getting everything needed for a reference, and then made her way out to head to the college. She found that the college hadn't changed all that much since she was a student there years ago. It looked the same and in places even smelled the same. Young weres and normal students were going about their classes along with members of the faculty going about their work.

She eventually made her way into one of the college's administrative buildings and followed the same old signs that took her to the college's career center. The area hadn't changed much, as the paneling and so on looked clean and well maintained. She noticed that the carpet had been changed and was presently a bright bluish color, which she thought was an improvement over the striped orange and brown that it had been when she was a college student. She slowly made her way toward a long desk with a couple of administrative personnel there looking over paperwork or other things. She didn't get too far though, when she saw a familiar werecougar come out of a back office and walk to a coffee pot on a back counter.

"Jen! Jen Decker!" the werecougar spoke with a warm smile, "My, I haven't seen you in years. How have you been?"

"I've been as well as can be expected, Mrs. Johnson, given everything," Jen said slowly, remembering the energetic werecougar who had served as the career guidance councilor for the college when she was there. The woman helped students pick their classes and majors to suit their goals and ran the programs to help them get into the work force.

"I'm sure," Mrs. Johnson said slowly, "What can I do for an old alum?"

"Well... I'm getting back into the work force... and I want to make sure that things like my resume are in order," Jen spoke, "make sure I can provide for my son."

"Of course I can help!" Mrs. Johnson said with a smile, "come around the counter and come with me. I'll do what I can."

Jen walked along and ultimately followed Mrs. Johnson into her office. When Mrs. Johnson sat down, she offered Jen a seat across from her desk. Jen nodded and presented Mrs. Johnson with a copy of her old resume.

"I have a list of relevant references that are newer than those on this copy," Jen spoke as she handed it out, "I just need to update it so its in the right format."

"That'll be good, and just an update?" Mrs. Johnson asked as she looked at the resume.

"Yes," Jen nodded.

Mrs. Johnson nodded and looked through it. Jen watched quietly as the woman across from her soon drew out a red pen and began writing out editing marks on the paper. Eventually Mrs. Johnson set the paper down and looked to Jen.

"Well, much of this looks quite good, and I see you have updated your work history, which works well," Mrs. Johnson spoke, "that is good. The big thing that will change with your resume is going to be with regards to the "objective" section. A lot of places aren't really interested in that and will ASSUME your objective is to gain employment with them."

"So I can delete that?" Jen asked.

Mrs. Johnson nodded, "and other than that, it looks quite good. I take it you've already put in the updated references?"

"No, that's next," Jen gave a sigh, "this is just a copy of the last resume that I used. I figured it'd be good to get a direct update with you first."

"I see," Mrs. Johnson spoke, "well, just make sure you update those and you'll be fine."

"Thank you," Jen gave a small smile.

"Any plans for local work, or going to Seattle?" Mrs. Johnson inquired, "if I may ask?"

"Mostly local... but I will commute to work if need be," Jen answered, "I'm mostly only getting started... as I'll need to make sure I can provide for my son, Tad."

"Well, we all hope you do well," Mrs. Johnson smiled, "and hopefully, things do go well for you."
