Anna walked the station platform looking, listening, and smelling the surroundings of giant machines. Her daddy lifted Anna up onto the steps of the pullman car as the nice Porter took her little hand for safety.
"Come dus way lill princess!" said the old black man.
Anna looked back at her Daddy to see him smile and motion she go with the man to their stateroom. As she walked down the narrow hallway the smells of old cigar smoke mixed with the aged carpet making Anna rub her nose.
Circe was all this time drinking in the experiance as she'd never yet traveled in this manner. quiet though she be her nasty mind was totaling the men who were aboard and wondering if any women were on board?
Anna plopped into the window seat and watched the people scurry about on the platform. So much to see her hands were sweating as the locomotive's horn gave two short toots and the train slowly was urged into motion.
Anna's mother was putting things in the right places as Daddy watched his daughter's first train ride. Anna stayed glued to the window as their train sped over the countryside. Faster and faster till the close up scenery was just a blur, Anna watched the towns turn to farmlands. She'd point to the cattle as one herd ran from near the tracks due to the roaring noise of their train. Anna saw horses, but they stood there at the fence line as the train went by not giving a care, or even a whinnie.
Time flew by like the mixture of scenery out Anna's window. It was the hearing of a three note chime that turned Anna to look at Daddy and tilt her head in wonder.
"It's the Dinning car Steward sounding the first call to lunch!" said Daddy.
"Lunch!" repeated Anna she had so enjoyed her trip thus far but now had the joy of eating aboard a train.
