Alice Stevens was locking the front door to her costume shop as the clock struck 5:00. She walked around to the back of the shop where she always parked her car and got in. Putting the key into the ignition, Alice started her car and backed out of the alleyway behind her shop.
After about ten minutes of driving, she pulled into the driveway of her house. Getting out of the car, she locked it behind her and opened the front door to her house. As she put down her purse on the kitchen counter, Alice couldn't help but think about the man she'd asked out today: Tom Herald.
Something about this guy made her heart leap, but she didn't know why. He'd been on her mind all day. She'd just met him, and in her opinion, it was still a little too early to tell if she loved him. But she wasn't sure whether he would love her.
Alice sat down on her couch and turned on the TV and watched the News to try to stop thinking about Tom. Like usual, there was a bunch of stuff on about Ulysses and his tail. She just wanted all of this to die down soon, because it was getting quite annoying. But no matter what, Tom wouldn't get off her mind.
Alice wanted to think that Tom could love her no matter what, but she felt that if he found out what she was, she'd never see him again.
She was a werevixen.
Alice had never told anyone her secret, and only her parents knew the truth. At times, it was hard keeping her secret, as she just wanted to find love like any normal woman. Her parents, who live in Moon Lake, had told her countless times that she was welcome to move down there with them, but she liked it in Seattle.
Alice sighed and said to herself, "Maybe, if I know I can trust him after the Halloween party, maybe I can show him the real me."
