Pierce looked at the man strangely. Why wouldn't he want to have something that helped him do magic? it would be fun to be able to teleport, see the future, or fly. Pierce said, "sure, but where would I find them? Also, I don't have anything to pay with."
The man beckoned Pierce into the portal while saying, "The first one is free!" Pierce decided that he could simply walk back into the portal if he decided to leave and stepped through the portal after the man.
Pierce opened his eyes, not realizing that he had closed them when he walked into the portal, and looked around. He was inside a huge department store with shelves going on and on. Pierce laughed, realizing that the man had not been lying. He looked down and saw a piece of paper on it. It read, "Pierce: sorry, but I was called away on some business. Take one object from the store. It is impossible to have two pieces of magic on your body at the same time, so I don't have any cameras. Look behind you and remember what door you came out of. When you are done, just walk back out of it."
Pierce wandered around the store for a little bit. He passed aisles of jewelry, which he didn't even come close to because he was a boy and would never even be caught dead wearing. He passed an aisle of lamps, which were labeled: GENIE, Disguised and Normal. Looking down the aisle, Pierce saw that there were indeed the typical genie lamps that you would expect to see, but also a couple of house lamps, and even a fan. Pierce decided that he would leave these alone for now, knowing how treacherous genies could be. Pierce saw a row of bottles, which were labeled as potions, and a row of water bottles. He passed some rings, computers, wings, wands, and eventually forgot all he had seen because of the sheer enormity of the store.
Pierce looked around to see where he was, and realized that he could see no walls except for the one that his door was in. All around were signs that pointed towards the doors, but there was not a single mention of where the other walls could be. Pierce figured this was because the store was, simply, endless.
In truth, he was almost correct. The room simply had a repeating spell on it, which made it so that if you reached where the end would be, you would teleport to where your door was. the side effect of these spells was making the walls or boundaries shrouded in an invisibility cloud of sorts, giving the appearance of never-endingness.
Pierce walked back to the door that he came out of and decided to choose which object he would take. it would have to be something inconspicuous, nothing like the extravagant genie bottle in aisle 17 that was so covered in gems that you would think it a crystal.
Pierce decided to choose the...
