Carol tried to object but the children loudly overruled her with their cheers, begging Bobbi to show them her magic trick.
"Wait, wait. I might have something, " said Kate sourly, as she went into her bedroom.
She returned with a bag of cough drops which she poured into a large bowl and presented to the children. The children took it begrudgingly.
"This candy stinks, " said a young boy.
Kate shrugged her shoulders. "What are you complaining about? It's free. You take it or leave it for all I care."
She felt a pleasant sensation on her thigh and looked down to see a young girl rubbing her leg.
"I like your costume. It's so soft! You make a real pretty kitty," said the young girl.
"Thanks, " said Kate, blushing a little. She didn't know what bothered her more - the girl rubbing her or the fact she kind of liked how it felt. She heard giggles behind her and her embarrassment turned to anger. "Whatever. Just take the candy and scram."
The little girl thanked her and left. Kate slowly closed the door and turned to face the others. They were staring at her.
"What?!" she asked with annoyance.
"That is a pretty poor excuse for candy, " said Mike.
The other nodded in agreement, and Kate realized they were looking at her candy bowl rather than her. She began to get really ticked off. She was transformed against her will and now they were criticizing her hospitality.
"Well, I don't see you offering ...."
Kate suddenly stopped as she got an idea.
"You know, you guys are right. This candy does suck. But I know how we can make it better, " she said slyly, eyeing the wand in Bobbi's hand.
"I don't know..." began Carol.
"What do you want to do? Change them into a better kind of candy?" asked Bobbi with barely contained excitement. She was eager to use the wand and it showed. Just like Kate had hoped.
"Even better. Use the wand to enchant the candy. Whoever sucks on the cough drop will become the character their costume represents. Just for Halloween night, of course," said Kate.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. That's a terrible idea. There would be monsters running amok causing havoc all over town," said Mike.
"Oh, come on, " said Kate with exasperation. "These are kids we are talking about. At worst we will just create a bunch of princesses and mutant turtles. We can carefully screen the children, and only give them out to children in safe costumes. Let the kids have some fun for one night."
"Oh, let's do it! That does sound like fun!" said Bobbi.
"I don't know, " said Carol warily.
"Look, if the worst comes to worst we have two people with superpowers that can quickly put a stop to any serious trouble, " said Kate, gently rubbing Carol's large bicep.
Carol flexed her strong biceps almost involuntarily. The first time. But when she did it again it was no accident. Kate new Carol was itching to test her strength, and it played right into her hand.
"But what if someone gets hurt? Or worse yet, killed!" said Mike.
Kate rolled her eyes again.
Was Mike always such a wet blanket, she thought.
"Fine. Just enchant them so if anybody who uses one is seriously hurt or killed, they will just wake up safely in their bed the next morning changed back to normal, thinking it was just a dream. The same applies to anyone seriously hurt or killed by someone who used one of the candies, " said Kate.
"I'm convinced," said Bobbi.
"Me, too, " said Carol.
Mike still had a sour expression on his face.
"Looks like you are outvoted," said Kate with a smile. "Now, let's do this."
Bobbi smiled and waved her wand over the cough drops.
