You weren't really sure what to expect when Becky triggered the keystone, but the process was actually pretty uneventful in and of itself. When you could see clearly again, you took stock of your new surroundings. You were amongst some trees, but you could see the edge of a forest just in front of you. Beyond, stretching for miles, was what looked like the remains of a forest after a fire. The land was fairly clear, with a few black and skeletal trees and the ground was covered in sooth and ash.
"Where are we?" you asked.
"I don't know. I've never seen this place before, but I get a very bad feeling from it." Becky replied.
You know what she means. The whole place has a very bad energy about it, and you really didn't feel comfortable just looking at that burnt forest.
"Well, why were we supposed to come here?" you ask at last.
"I'm not sure. Granma and Ma have warded other places in the forest and I figured this would take us to one of those places. But there's nothing here." she answered.
"No, not nothing."
You both jump at the voice, which came from behind you. Turning around, you saw what looked to be a normal looking human. He looked to be about nineteen or twenty, and was dressed in jeans and t-shirt with a grey hoodie. By all appearances, there was nothing strange about him.
"Who are you?" Becky asked with suspicion. Looks could be deceiving in this forest.
"Doesn't really matter right now." he replied.
"What does matter?" you ask.
"That's up to you, but I suggest finding somewhere safe. Those pig-werewolves have your scent and you're the ones they've been after this whole time. They're on their way here now."
"How do you know that?" Becky asked, clearly getting a bit nervous.
"That's a secret. Chalk it up to experience." he retorted.
"Well then can you at least tell us why we were sent here?" Becky asked with annoyance.
"You're grandmother wanted you to seek refuge at the Faerie Sanctuary here, but there's no sanctuary to be found. The faerie's in this area have been wiped out, the battle has left its scars." he explained, gesturing at the charred forest.
"Then what should we do?" you ask.
"Well if you want my advice I'd head into the burnt area. Keep going until you reach mountains on the other side. There'll be sanctuary there, at least for a while." he said. "And don't worry about monsters. Nothing lives in the forest now, you probably won't encounter anyone or anything on the way. It's easy to get lost though, so make sure you keep a steady heading. Oh, and if you see fog coming off the mountains or from that general direction, don't worry. But if a fog bank comes in from any other direction, run. Understand?"
With no other real options the two of set of into the burned area, leaving the strange man behind at the tree line. After you are well out of earshot, he turns and looks into the forest. He observes large shapes approaching the tree line, and he frowns.
"They're late."
