Karen was fairly quiet as she came out from her last class for the day, or rather for the evening. Her mind still dwelt on the report that there was some agent of a guy that her roommate had long ago rejected. She wanted Jenny to be safe and have her happy ever after and she didn't want to be sucked into Dieter Wilhelm's schemes. Her thoughts focused on that that she barely noticed the handsome man waiting for her just outside the art building.
"Hey there... something on your mind?" Peter asked to her and stepped back when Karen actually jumped at his comment.
"Oh... Peter, it's you," Karen said as she recovered and then jumped into his arms to hug him.
Peter returned the hug, but felt a bit of concern. He knew Karen to be friendly and outgoing. She'd gotten along well with his whole family and had even won his father over. While he knew there might be some issues that she had with werelions being fairly polygamous, similar to mundane lions, he knew that she did seem willing to be his lioness despite those concerns. Right now, however, Karen did not look happy. She didn't seem scared or sad, but more nervous and distant.
"Something is wrong," Peter stated to her.
Karen only sighed, "let's go to the commons... and I'll tell you."
Peter shrugged but nodded and walked along. They quietly walked along and made their way the main commons building and eventually made their way to the main cafeteria. Peter had hoped for a more romantic setting for a date, but the present situation did not appear to be such that things could be romantic. In fact, things looked borderline frightening based on the situation. That made Peter feel fairly nervous in his right, but also raised a deep and righteous rage rise in his own heart rise in his own heart. NO ONE made his love feel fear or unhappiness. He stayed close to Karen and picked out the same cafeteria dinner, pizza and french fries that she picked out to be ready for what she told him and to prepare his course of action as wisely as possible.
He had two thoughts going through his mind. One was that someone had pushed his threats on her or Jenny harder, as she was already nervous over Jenny's wedding, and Peter thought that was the most likely. The other related to Liz Brookshire making some direct threat at Karen because of Peter's place in werelion society and Liz's jealousy that Peter hadn't chose her. He'd thought the werelioness had calmed down and accepted his chose, but that didn't mean she wasn't still jealous and had decided to pull something behind his back. Either threat would require his action and he would need to think it over. They picked out their food and got some fountain drinks, Peter a Coke and Karen a Sprite and then quietly made their way to a quiet section of the room. As they sat down, Peter brought up the situation to get the answer to the question that he needed answered.
"So... what is going on, Karen?" Peter asked, "what's wrong?"
Karen answered with a heavy sigh, "Dieter Wilhelm has sent ANOTHER agent... and one who will likely want to kill Jenny."
Peter gasped for a moment and as he recovered, he reached out with one hand to touch Karen's.
"You know that no one in Moon Lake will let that happen," Peter assured her, "the Skulk will protect her... WE will protect her."
"i'm sure," Karen spoke, "but that doesn't mean the threat is absent... and the first agent came to Karen's and my room... If I hadn't been with you..."
Peter felt Karen's hand tremble. She was afraid ad Peter could feel it. Peter couldn't let Karen stay in fear.
"Can I stay with you? In case this guy shows up on campus?" Karen asked, "it doesn't have to involve MY future as a were... I... I just don't want to be killed by some lunatic who is frustrated that he couldn't kidnap Jenny..."
"Is she safe?" Peter asked.
"She and Harry are in the college's safe room," Karen answered, "it's closer to campus security and since Jenny's new vixen body isn't known to this Wilhelm guy... his agents won't key in on tailing her now or those she's with. However... they... he will know her dorm room and could very well be watching it..."
"And you're scared," Peter said slowly.
Karen nodded.
"Then yes," Peter answered, "You can stay with me. And I will keep you safe."
"Thank you, Peter," Karen gave a weak smile and nibbled on the fries she had placed on her plate.
