Some time after the after-party had ended, Shelly and Stormheart were snuggling in their bed. Shelly moaned as Stormheart kissed her breasts. "You really like them, don't you?" she asked.
"Just imagining what our foals will be doing with them," replied Stormheart.
"Well, don't imagine too much," said Shelly, "We're still not having them until we've gotten this farm settled properly."
"Speaking of which, you still haven't told me how you came to inherit this farm," said Stormheart, "And how did you get your family name? I haven't seen any other Williams here."
"Well, that's a very long and strange story," said Shelly, "You've heard how some people leave their pets a big inheritance? Well, for me, it was a grander version of that. Technically, this farm has been in the Williams family for generations, both human and horse."
"Human and horse?" asked Stormheart, "I thought that humans didn't consider animals to be actual family before Animalia."
"Well, this family has had an unusual connection with the horses here. The story goes that about 140 years ago, the original Williams family settled in this area and built their horse ranch. They had picked out good land and had brought several fine horses with them so it looked like they were going to have a successful farm. But unfortunately, they made a bad enemy. Perhaps it was a witch they had refused to sell a horse too. Perhaps it was an Indian shaman who was angered by their building on sacred land. Maybe a rival farmer had hired a conjurer to get rid of the Williams. But whatever it was, the Williams' eldest son, Jesse, was changed into a stallion. The family tried to find a way to break the spell, but nothing ever worked. So to make sure Jesse didn't lose his inheritance, the Williams made a rather peculiar deed for their farm. In fact, I still have the old deed here."
Shelly climbed out of bed and walked over to the safe in her room. Stormheart took the time to admire the shape of her rear as she bent over and opened up the safe. She walked back with a yellowed sheet of parchment that still had legible writing on it. Shelly pointed out the paragraph that was relevant to her story, 'And until such time that Jesse Williams or one of his direct descendants is freed from the curse, this land and all the property on it shall belong to the other members of the Williams family. However, a direct descendant of Jesse Williams, even if still under the curse, must remain under the ownership of the current head of the Williams family. If the curse is ever broken and a descendant of Jesse Williams regains human form, then the farm and everything on it will be given to them.'
"So basically, my bloodline became the living deed to this farm," said Shelly, "The Williams had a very strong code of honor and tradition. Though it made them seem rather..."
"Eccentric?" asked Stormheart.
"I might have said 'crazy', but that's what others would say," said Shelly, "Anyways, the family legacy has been passed down for generations, with one long unbroken line of horses kept in the family. I'm glad that no one unscrupulous would have tried to cut the horses out of the wills or I may never have been born. The current Williams family didn't have a very strong interest in running the farm anyways. So when the Animalia virus changed me, they considered the curse to be close enough to being lifted and let me have the place."
Stormheart raised an eyebrow and said, "That really was a strange story. You really think there's any truth to it? That over a hundred years ago your ancestors were humans?"
Shelly shrugged and said, "For all I know, the original Williams were crazy farmers who wanted to make sure their descendants kept being horse breeders. We weren't changed by magic, but by science. And I highly doubt there were any super viruses back then that could change humans into horses."
"Compared to us, would magic seem all that strange?" asked Stormheart, "I'm not superstitious, but it makes me wonder if this world has more than it seems in it."
Shelly snorted and said sarcastically, "And maybe we'll be welcoming the Loch Ness monster and the chupacabra into Animalia by next year. I think this world is strange enough as it is without adding mystical forces to it."
"Well, I can't help but think of what could really have happened back then," said Stormheart.
"How about you stop thinking about the past and think more about the future?" asked Shelly, "Like what our foals will be like?"
Stormheart kissed her and said, "Well, we ought to keep this place in the family."
