After dinner, Zack's mom brings out a birthday cake with vanilla ice cream and sets them on the table in front of him.
"Happy birthday Zack," she says, smile on her face, "Blow out your candles and make a wish."
Zack can't help but chuckle at the irony of that statement, "Thanks Mom. I'll think of something good."
He looked over at his sister, still in her high chair and sucking on her thumb in boredom. He'd have to think of something pretty good to top what he'd already done to her.
Apparently, he had thought about it for awhile, as suddenly Susie pulled her thumb out of her mouth and snapped, "Hurry up and make a wish already! Jeez, we're going to be here all night, aren't we?"
"Susie! Don't yell at your brother like that!" their mom scolded, "This is his special day, he's allowed to take his time."
