As Emily was embracing her new powers as Bastet with plans to raise her chosen army, you continued on your search for the others. Your changes were not yet complete, but you had an aching feeling they would be soon, and despite the former Anubis' reassurance, you wanted to find your friends before anything would happen to them.
Meanwhile, Karen was still making her way through the pyramids. Being the meekest of the group, she was scared out of her wits and more or less trembled as she walked. 'This was such a bad idea...' she thought to herself. 'Why did you have to stick around with those four? Why couldn't you have gone with the group?' As she was mentally beating herself up, Karen inadvertently stepped on a loose floor tile, causing the area around her to rumble. Startled, Karen noticed a door opening and darted inside. As she backed against the wall, panting heavily, she started to look around the room, and saw that that she had entered a tomb much like that of Anubis and Bastet. However, this one had carvings of snakes on the walls, as well as a small fountain in the middle with a statue of a naga, a half-snake, half-human, as its centerpiece. Karen, the only one of your group who really paid attention to history, began to realize who this chamber was for.
"It looks like Kebechet..." she said to herself. "This must be some sort of shrine to her."
"Indeed it issss…" a voice hissed. Karen turned around and nearly had a heart attack upon finding herself face to face with a giant serpent, only this one had arms, long hair, and a white dress adorned with jewels.
"K-K-Keb…" was all Karen could stammer.
"Yessss, it is I, Kebechet, goddesssss of purification," the snake woman greeted, before coughing and kneeling down. Well... as close to kneeling as a snake can do. "I've been expecting you, Karen..." she continued.
"H-how do you...?" Karen stuttered, still not believing what was happening was real.
"My child, did you really think you finding thisss hidden room that ssssso many tourists miss was a coincssssidence?" Kebechet replied. "I am but one of five remnants of the Egyptian gods and goddessssses. We've been promised that today successsssors would arrive. This is where you come in..."
"Wh-what?" Karen asked.
"We need ssssuccessors to carry on our legacy, and rule and rebuild Egypt in our ssssstead." Kebechet hissed.
"Well... what do you mean by 'rebuild'?" Karen trembled, still uncertain.
"For centuiessss, Egyptians have forgotten ussss," the snake goddess explained. "Without our guidance, thingssssss have been... less than ideal. The gods are preparing for a ssssecond coming, so we can reclaim Egypt's legaccccy..."
"Uh... okay?" Karen nodded. "B-but what do you need me for?"
"We have grown old and week over many, many yearssss..." Kebechet sighed. "We sssseek to reincarnate oursssselves. My four fellow gods have found theirs, in the form of your friendssss..."
"And, you want me... to be yours?" Karen gulped.
"Exssssactly..." Kebechet said, grinning weakly. "Of coursssse, I won't force it upon you. If you refusssse, I will sssssimply find another who will accept. But wouldn't you like to? You've always blended into the background. To shy to expand your circle of friendssss beyond your current four. Become my new vessssel, become the goddessss of purification. Together, we can remove the sssssin from Egypt, and then the world..."
Karen thought about what the snake woman told her. She was never really one to stand out in a crowd. She wanted to be thought of as more, have her ideas known, make the world a better place. Soon, Karen reluctantly extended her hand. "I'll do it."
"Excccccellent..." Kebechet hissed as she extended her own hand and grabbed Karen's. Soon, the snake god began to fade away, until Karen was left standing alone. However, Kebechet's voice still echoed through her head. "All hail the goddess Kebechet..."
Karen just stood there in disbelief. She still had so many questions. Like what did the goddess mean by "vessel"? What did Kebechet need her body for?
As if to answer her question, Karen suddenly began to recoil in pain. Her skin started to grow thicker, before dark green scales began to grow over her body. She looked over her hands in terror as they began to change, her nails growing sharper until they had become claws. Gold scales began to spread across the front side of her body, covering her chest, knees, and chin. Karen groaned as she felt her legs begin pushing together, until they had started to merge into one. Her feet also begin to merge, as they reformed into a long tail. Karen felt herself grow taller and stronger, aging into the body of a grown woman. Her eyes slanted as they turned a solid yellow. Her face grew out as it changed into the snake head as her glasses fell off. Her teeth sharpened into fangs while her tongue became forked. Karen's hair grew out slightly, down to her thighs as they grew thicker. Her clothes were changed into a white dress, adorned with the finest Egyptian jewelry. There no longer was Karen. There was Kebechet.
