Chelsea's Coin

added 6 years ago A BM S O

Chelsea stretched out on her bed. She was awfully bored. There was nothing to do. It was too hot to go outside, her phone was out of power, and she didn't have anything interesting to read. She had read all her books a thousand times. She sighed. Hana needed a walk. Hana was their Samoyed, about seven months old, and the friendliest dog she had ever seen. Never bitten, chewed, destroyed, or jumped. She sat up and got out of bed, then got dressed in a tank top with a sports bra, pulling on some shorts and grabbing Hana's leash off the desk. Hana was under it, enjoying the cool floor. She put a collar on her and clipped on the leash, then walked her to the door. The weather was humid and sticky; her sweat bogged down the shirt, and Hana was rather bothered by her heavy fur. They walked around the block, and stopped to take a breather in a shady park. And that's where Chelsea found the coin.

It was little more than a faint glimmer, but her eyes caught it anyway. It was a brilliant cobalt blue, with a pink gemstone in the middle. It looked like an eye, and the other side was engraved with one. She pocketed it. Might be lucky, and it sure looked cool! When she got home and took off Hana's collar, she sat down on her bed and inspected it further. It's surface felt silky smooth, but firm, and almost unbreakable. It exuded a powerful energy, and Chelsea felt compelled to hold it longer. As she thumbed at the gemstone set in its side, she felt an odd looseness. Not loose as if it were going to fall free... No, it felt different. ...the gemstone was in a socket. She could push down. And, spurred on by this strange energy, she did.

The effect was immediate, as her entire body tingled as she experienced a similar sensation to when you move your foot after a while. The sensation was technically painless, yet it was unbearable. She looked down at her arm to see silky pink scales. She was growing scales. Claws tipped her hands, which remained vaguely humanlike, which meant they had opposable thumbs and not much else. As the last of her scales grew in, the tingling ceased, but there was pressure at her tailbone, back, and nose. She fell onto all fours as her face pushed out into a short snout, and a tail grew, with three tufts of lighter pink fluff at the end. As her new quadruped body ripped through her clothes, she saw her belly and snout were both cream coloured. Her eyes shifted into almond dragon eyes, as her ears became petal-like and settled atop her head. Two buds appeared which bloomed into wooden antlers, like little branches on a Japanese cherry tree. Although she could not see it, little flower marks were appearing on her cheeks. Finally, a mane of fur raced down her spine and framed her face, as small whiskers formed. She was a dragon.

Hana whined and licked her face. Even after her change, her dog still recognized her. She didn't think she could speak, so she thought for a moment.. Ah, yes. She knew something. Animals could understand her, but people couldn't. She patted Hana's head with her clawed hand. "Good girl, Hana."

Hana twitched slightly, as if about to sneeze. Chelsea looked down and gasped. The eye on the other side had changed. It was glowing gold, and looked different. Hana was going to change.
