Colin looked out from the window of his car as he finished his book and groaned. They were passing the Nevada state line, and Denver was still hours away. It was 9:30 PM, and Colin was hating the return trip from his grandparent's house in Portland, Oregon. His father was driving, his mother snoozing in the passenger seat, and his older sister was listening to music in the seat behind him.
Colin looked outside and saw his reflection briefly as they drove over a small stream. He had red-rimmed eyes and the blue car that his face was surrounded in only helped bring out that color in the night. As he looked into the stream, he could swear he saw a blue face, shaped like a water droplet, appear beside his own, and he felt like he could hear a small voice saying, "Here you go."
Colin shook his head and reverted to complaining inwardly. Intending to make others as bored as he was, Colin asked his father, "Are we there yet?"
"Yes," Colin's father replied. And suddenly they were. Colin sat in the car as it pulled into the driveway of a familiar house with a familiar skyline behind it. Somehow, Colin was home. He got out of the car with the rest of the family, who seemed to think it was perfectly normal to be home right now, after teleporting from Nevada to Denver in the matter of seconds. It was still 9:30 PM.
Jane, Colin's older sister, walked to the back of the car and opened the trunk. Looking at the dirt covering the car, she said, "Wow, this car is really dirty."
Colin looked at it, and it did have a lot of dirt behind the wheels. "Yeah, has our car always been brown?"
The family's faces suddenly lost all expression as they said, "Yes." The whole car suddenly turned the same color brown as the dirt, and Colin jumped. He went to bed without saying anything.
During the night, Colin had a dream with the little droplet he had seen. As he fell asleep, it said, "Hello. You are currently asleep, so I sent you this dream. You won't be able to respond to me, so just listen. I felt like you needed something to do, so I gave you this power. Every time you ask a yes or no question, or a question that could be answered with a yes or no, the answer will always be yes. When the answer is given, it will be true. Like earlier today, when you asked if the car was always brown. To the rest of the world, it has!"
"Anyways, you will be the only one who notices the differences in the world. Have fun!"
