“Colin!”
Colin woke up with a start. What an odd dream he’d had.
“Colin are you awake?”
That was the sound of his mother from downstairs.
“Yes mom!” Colin shouted.
“Good. I’m going to the grocery store. Your brothers are in charge,” she yelled.
Colin groaned. His brothers were four years older than him and seniors in high school. The twins never got along. It was if they could find anything to quarrel about. Most people couldn’t tell the difference between the two and as such found it quite comical.
Colin got out of bed and cautiously made his way downstairs. His brother Mason was awake, it seemed Daniel was still asleep.
“Will you hand me the cereal?” Colin asked as he sat down at the table with a bowl.
“Yes,” Mason said suspiciously monotone. He handed Colin the cereal and he began to eat breakfast.
“MAAASSON!” shouted Daniel from upstairs. In a flurry of stomping he rushed down the stairs and glared at Mason. “Where. Is. My. Hoodie?”
“I don’t kn-“
“YES YOU DO.”
This continued on for a bit. Curiously, Colin felt very brave.
“Will you two just stop fighting?!” He yelled.
“Yes,” the two said simultaneously in a monotone voice. Daniel walked back upstairs with an emotionless expression. Mason continued to eat like nothing had happened.
“Will you put my dishes away?” Colin asked curiously.
With a monotone yes, Mason grabbed the dishes from Colin and placed them in the dishwasher.
Colin’s phone buzzed. It was his mother. He picked it up to his ear.
“Hey Colin,” his mother said speedily. “I forgot to tell you that I left a chore list for the three of you on the counter. Have it done by the time I come back.”
“Ok,” Colin said. But his mother had already hung up.
Colin had no intention of cleaning anything. But he knew who would.
“Will Daniel and Mason clean the entire house top to bottom as well as accomplishing the chore lost before Mom comes home?” he said to no one in particular.
Colin heard Mason day yes and swiftly run off to clean things. Daniel rushes down the stairs and grabbed the vacuum. It was a hilarious flurry of cleaning.
