Lauren hummed to herself as she laid out the dishes, placing each plate at it's familiar place on the table.
"Jeff, Dinner in 5!" she called up the staircase.
She suddenly shuddered, and felt a wave of warmth pass through her body.
"I have to take this ridiculous thing off..." she mumbled, pulling of her blue sweater and revealing a light brown T-shirt.
"Coming mom!" she heard her son's voice, followed by quick footsteps.
Lauren suddenly felt another wave of warmth fill her body, like she just drank a cup of hot coffee.
"Huh," she commented nonchalantly, returning to dinner.
Jeff stepped down the last stair, his heart beating with anticipation.
He took a look around then stepped into the kitchen.
He Froze.
Mom was sorting through the refrigerator, bending down at the hips.
What surprised him was the tail between her legs.
There, just above her behind, was a 2 feet long tail. It was brown in color and occasionally waved back and forth.
"Ah, there it is." Murmured his mother. She backed out of the fridge and closed the door, turning around.
Jeff was even more shocked by the full view of his mother's changing body.
First of all, she was much taller. In fact, by the way her head reached the top of the refrigerator, he estimated she was about 6'5. Next were her ear's, which were now pointed and a bit bigger.
Also noticeable was the sound of strained clothing, and Jeff realized that her shirt no longer covered all of her midriff, and her black sweat pants were pulled up to just below her kneecaps.
But most obvious were her eye's. Usually a dark green, her eyes were now a piercingly bright shade of gold.
However, they had the same shape that they always had, and looked on him with a curious gaze.
"Jeff?" Her voice broke his trance. "What is it honey?"
Jeff gazed at his changing mother, and felt a little nervous.
"I...I...I'm fine...mom." he stuttered.
Lauren easily picked up on his tone, and took a step closer to her son.
"Are you okay, Jeff?" She remarked with concern.
Jeff saw his mother towering over him, and felt a pang of fear.
Then his eye's met hers, and he saw a very familiar, loving gaze.
He breathed a small sigh of relief. This was still his mother.
"It's okay mom, I'm good." he remarked, smiling slightly.
Lauren returned his smile. "Well, seeing as your alright, can you please get the silverware." she asked her voice a little deeper, but still very feminine.
"Sure mom," Jeff replied.
Mom smile widened as she bent over and kissed him on the cheek, before resuming her task of preparing dinner.
Jeff went to the drawer to set the table, glancing at the clock as he did so.
3:34 seconds left, he thought to himself.
