Strange things have begun to occur. Some are sudden and destructive. Others are slow and insidious. All of them are Eldritch, mysterious and unexplained by any means that anyone can produce. Such events as large groups of people suddenly falling into madness, random failures in machinery and electronics that cannot be repaired, the slow depopulation of entire cities, and a sudden spike in cult worshiping, hideous murders, meaningless terrorist attacks, and suicides. The world is being ripped apart by horrific happenings, and no one can explain any of it. Even humanity's perceptions of the universe are being destroyed as both minds and bodies are being warped and twisted, destroyed and replaced.
A reckoning has come to the planet, of this many are sure, but no one knows what to do. The events are seemingly random in both timing, location, and quantity of people affected. This could be the end of humanity as a species; a beginning of new era. This new era has yet to be realized and could manifest itself in any form. Even your position in this era could be out of your control as you are taken by forces we cannot even hope to comprehend. Despite this lack of control in your fate, your actions may determine whether or not you even get a place in this new era. Choose wisely, for even the slightest mistake could end your existence.
The time is 6:00 PM, the sun is just setting on your apartment in the city. You have been afraid to leave the relative safety of your apartment. The things you heard on the news until your TV busted itself were terrifying to say the least. However, a food shortage has made it imperative that you go out and look upon the condition of the city. The recent decrease in vehicular activity outside has caused you to worry. What if the city is empty and you're all that's left? Regardless of the situation, you need food and you need it now, otherwise you'll simply starve to death in a tomb 20 stories up from the ground.
