"Listen," began Regina Talbot, while looking directly at Tora Tachibana, "medicine is not my strong suit, but even if you're right about why his doctor is in her current state, why is our son acting the way he is?"
"With Helen accidentally taking werelioness birth control pills instead of the ones meant for were-rabbits, maybe they somehow altered her scent to attract Peter," guessed Doctor Tachibana.
"Then again, while he will not admit it publicly, our son has been pining for a mate for a while now. Any werelioness Peter has met before now has only been interested in his position as the were-lion prince of Moon Lake. Besides, our daughter just had her were-wedding, which caught all of us by surprise," explained Leon Talbot.
"Congratulations," said Tora, before continuing. "It's bad enough that Helen's affected to begin with, let alone the flack Tachibana Enterprises is going to face over this. Hopefully it was just a pharmacy mixed up and not something on the manufacturing end, because there's no way we can issue a recall, let alone one this major, on every female's birth control prescriptions to double check every pill with those normal mobsters in town. Either way, the Skulk will make all restitutions to every party involved as needed."
"What's that mean?" asked Helen's brother Andy, who was still waiting for an apology from Peter Talbot for breaking his arm Friday night.
"It means that although Helen will still technically have to face a review board for her actions, this mistake will exonerate her and Doctor Tompkins will be able to keep her job here at Moon Lake General, provided she wants to after all is said and done. And if your sister does somehow wind up pregnant, then Tachibana Enterprises will cover her medical expenses up to child birth, provided it was our fault and not some pharamcy's," Tora quickly added.
"Well, whatever's going to happen, we better reunite these two and soon," said Regina, as everyone heard Peter moan.
MEANWHILE...
Moon Lake Mayor (pro-tem) Samantha Twist was standing in the hallway talking to former mayor Martin Stovall. They were outside the window of the hospital's nursery, as the nurses brought over the Stovall twins to view.
"Joshua and Dawn. Nice names," commented Samantha, while staring at the babies.
"After Melissa's father and what time our daughter was born," said Martin, proudly staring at his prodigy. "Have you and Frances..." he began, wondering how to approach, let alone phrase the question.
"Yes. But we'll probably wind up adopting again after Ben graduates high school, if not college," revealed Samantha. "I had a VERY bad dream of Frances dying during childbirth, and with her mother's cancer situation..."
"I understand. I almost lost everything myself once. It would have been bad enough if Melissa had divorced me after Julie graduated high school," said Martin. "If she were to die..."
Then he paused to collect himself before adding, "I've lost so much in life already," thinking of his oldest daughter serving time for violating Statute 1A.
"But look at what you've gained," replied Samantha, pointing to the twins. "And you told me your marriage has greatly improved over the past months."
"Because of your wife Frances."
"Don't give me all the credit Martin Stovall," said Doctor Frances Twist, approaching them with her brother Samson in tow. The fact that his right arm was in a sling wasn't lost on either of them. "You and Melissa did all the hard work. I just showed you the way."
"And you wonder why I always say Frances is modest to a fault," said Samantha, giving her mate a deep hug and kiss before showing her the Stovall twins.
"Are you all right?" Martin asked Samson, beating Samantha to it.
"Just a flesh wound. You should see the other guy," kidded Samson, which earned him a punch from Frances in his good shoulder. "Seriously. Agent Reed of the FBI had to take out that Russian that was hanging around with Freddie the Shark. It was self defense, but turns out the guy was wanted by Interpol for war crimes."
"Wonderful. As if this situation wasn't bad enough already," moaned Samantha. "I've already got public opinion mixed about having to declare the Code W to begin with."
"Yet between what we know about Kenya Adaeze-Crawford, coupled with the alternate picnic plans we were discussing earlier, you should win the election easily," pointed out Martin.
"Well, with the public perception being that Code W is because of a water shortage, I've already called the fireworks company and told them we'd have to postpone the show for a later date, so we can still have them the night of the picnic. But tell me again why I'm running in the first place," quipped Samantha, as Samson walked over to look at the babies.
"Because you're the second best mayor Moon Lake has had in decades," replied Frances, while smiling at Martin.
"As long as I'm first in your book honey," said Samantha, before kissing her wife again.
"Come on. Let's go see Melissa. She'll be happy for the company," said Martin, before leading the way to his wife's room.
"Did you see anything you liked?" Frances asked her brother as they walked down the hall.
"That nurse in the back was cute," answered Samson.
"You know what I mean. Thinking about settling down and having pups of your own?"
"Always. I'm not getting any younger, even for a were, but it's still a question of finding the right woman. Especially one who understands that despite her place in my heart, protecting Moon Lake comes first."
"I'm sure she's out there somewhere. Just keep looking," Frances encouraged him, as Samson started thinking about Agent Reed again, and not in a professional manner.
