Now with the guy on his own, Ty prepared to make his wish. Since he didn’t know the guy’s name, Ty wanted to be as specific as he could be. He focused on the guy leaning his back against the outer wall to Brandy’s apartment building. He stared at him intensely and said aloud, “I wish this guy I’m looking at is now 100% gay, being completely and totally attracted to men, and that he has no problem with showing off that change in himself.” Ty smirked and waited. Nothing seemed to change outwardly with the guy.
Then, a large guy with a tight shirt turned a corner and began walking by the apartment building. Ty watched as Brandy’s friend’s eyes looked up with surprise. Then, they seemed to change. The guy looked the larger man up and down and bit his lip.
“Yo man, that shirt looks good on you,” he shouted as the latter passed by. “I bet it’d look better on the ground.” The other guy whirled around and stared at him. When Ty focused, he could see the look of shock, anger, rage, and confusion all mixed into one.
“What did you say?!” the larger guy said, walking straight toward Brandy’s friend. Ty smirked and turned away, knowing that Brandy’s friend was about to get pummeled.
“Sweet, sweet justice,” Ty thought gleefully to himself as he walked back towards his place. He kept thinking about how surprised Brandy, and subsequently the guy’s parents, when they all find out he’s gay. Not that being gay is wrong or anything. But as long as it keeps him away from Ty’s girl, Ty was happy. He was so engrossed in his own thoughts that he accidentally bumped into someone.
“Woah, man,” Ty said to the guy, looking a little older than Ty. “Sorry about that.”
“No problem,” he replied. Then he looked Ty up and down and smirked, biting his lip. “Not a problem at all.”
“Uh, sorry man, but I got a girlfriend,” Ty said backing up a bit.
“What a shame,” the guy said. “Well if you ever get bored of her…” he trailed off and raised an eyebrow at him.
“No thanks,” Ty answered and walked away. That was odd, he thought to himself. Guys have never hit on him before. Not that he minded too much. It just meant he was good-looking, but something about the way the guy had looked at him seemed a bit off. As he walked, he began to notice that a few more guys were noticeably checking him out as he passed them. He had to tell a couple more guys off. He couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off, but then again, he was experiencing college for the first time despite having the memories of the past 5 years. Maybe he just happened to pass by the side of campus where more gay people hung out. He then saw his roommate Nate just up ahead and ran to catch up to him.
“Hey man, how’s it going?” he asked. Nate turned and grinned. They fist-bumped.
“Pretty good,” Nate replied. “I had an awesome break in Hawaii. How about you?”
“Nothing interesting,” Ty lied, remembering briefly that he had only just gotten his gift a couple of days ago. “Tell me about your trip.”
“Yeah it was awesome, man,” Nate said. “Hey, there’s a watch party for the football game going on at Alex’s place. You wanna go?” Ty nodded. The two of them walked the short distance to Alex’s fraternity house while Nate continued on with the stories of his vacation in Hawaii. Ty even started to forget about the guy who tried to steal Brandy on the way there. Nate finished the story just as the walked up the front steps. Alex opened the door.
