"You're looking..." Jen said slowly as she looked to the werewolf officer, "we just told you..."
"I'm afraid it's a bit more complicated than that," Officer Connors answered, sensing some of the fear that Jen had. The situation was not an easy one and one that related to the complications that had come out of Lionel Ulysses' capture. Agent Teddy Green provided enough of a cover that the media believed that the tail was a costume piece, but with Ulysses murder, there was now information that meant there could be another incident that could expose weres, and that came when Akane Tachibana, the Skulk's leader, had updated Chief O'Hara on Dymixious and the supposed deal that Dymixious felt his little vigilante action was justified on and his presence in Moon Lake.
"Complicated?" Jen asked, "you have a potentially violent criminal who thinks he's done us a great service running around and you say it's complicated?"
"Arresting Dymixious isn't exactly our mission," Officer Connors answered, "that's actually going to be something the Seattle PD and likely Federal law enforcement agencies will want when they realize he's not in Seattle. The problem is that Dymixious IS prone to anger and violence. From what we've been told, he has a belief in self entitlement that goes beyond most people and can make him dangerous. And with the Harper/Jenkins wedding coming up we really can't get into a situation where we have to start a fight with a dragon to get a madman off the streets."
"Dragon?" Tad and Amy gasped, almost in unison as they looked to the uniformed officer.
Officer Connors nodded. A lot of this wasn't something that normally wouldn't be shared, but based on what Akane had informed Chief O'Hara on Dymixious it was agreed at the Moon Lake Police Department that anyone who reported Dymixious's odd behavior would be fully informed on things, for their own safety and avoid antagonizing Dymixious at a time when the town really couldn't afford werekomodo dragon with an ego problem.
"His were form is based on the Komodo Dragon, but with the rarity of reptilian based weres, the dragon reference sorta just came about," Officer Conners explained, "but from what we've been told he and his father have been highly arrogant and have seen themselves sort of a private were vigilante organization. Killing weres judged to be rogue in various ways and for the supposed secrecy of all weres..."
"But... Ulysses death didn't make the tail issue easier," Jen commented, "if anything it made it worse at first."
"He'd probably argue that in the end it did benefit our secrecy in that with Ulysses unable to blab that he was a were, the media ultimately turned to what was the most believable," Officer Conners spoke, "which isn't necessarily bad in and of itself... the problem is that his sense of arrogance will have the likelihood that if law enforcement finds him... he will fight and cause MORE trouble..."
"And if he fights... he risks exposing weres further," Jen said slowly.
"Which Moon Lake cannot afford at this present time," Officer Connors nodded, "we're monitoring him to make sure he doesn't get into trouble here... but our prime mission at the moment is to make sure that he doesn't do anything more that would draw attention to himself. Once the Harper/Jenkins wedding is through and we can get a chance to talk with Dymixious and get him to turn himself into the Seattle PD... and if not... we'd at least get the option of making sure whatever fight that results to arrest him will occur on conditions that the town won't be damaged and that any fight will hopefully be kept at a low enough key that he can't expose weres further."
"This sounds like a dangerous game," Tad commented, "Like something out of a Tom Clancy novel..."
"It probably is," Officers shook his head and looked down, "but it is what it is. We can't get away from it... and we'd urge you to be careful should you run into him again over the next few days."
Jen looked from her son and his girlfriend and then to the police officer who had arrived. Thankfully both Tad and Amy looked okay, but were definitely uneasy with their apparent interaction with this Dymixious. The man's actions based on their description was not something to be supported and that only left her wondering why.
"If I may ask..." Jen began, "but why is he here? Why behaved as he had?"
"From what we know, his father worked some sort of "deal" with Akane Tachibana's husband in the early 1800s which was originally a one time deal," Officer Connors answered, "but for whatever reason... he and his father felt that thing was worth continuing on even after Akane and her husband realized the mistake the first time around... not to mention a lack of knowledge that Akane, despite her heritage, holds no political power... As for why he became a vigilante, we don't know. We're simply stuck in a dangerous game that we hope can be resolved as quietly as possible."
