Transform or Dare?

Order of the Phoenix

added by QuillNInk 6 years ago O

Order of the Phoenix.

"Wait a second," Jen gasped.
"Didn't I have that one up in my room?"

By now Jen didn't care that she would miss her bus. She couldn't afford to miss another assignment. She'd been falling behind in school lately because she'd been taking some new acne control medication she was prescribed. One of the side effects that was listed was decrease in concentration.

Jen rushed up to her room to find the big, blue book sitting on her nightstand. Without a thought, she snatched it up and rushed to her sister's room only to be taken aback.

Jen knew that Lily took being a Potterhead very seriously, but Jen had never really been in her room before. The walls were orange with what Jen assumed to be quotes from the book painted in turquoise, which as Lily pointed out many times, one of the actors from the movie franchise had done once. On her walls and ceiling were posters for the books and movies. At the foot of her bed was a weird suitcase and a stuffed animal of a creature with 2 or 3 pairs of wings. On her wardrobe was a giant crest that Jen only faintly recognized as the Hogwarts crest.

It was an amazingly nerdy sight, but Jen remembered that she had an emergency. Without thinking, she went over to Lily's bed and shook her. Nothing. She tried again. Still nothing. Huffing in frustration, Jen walked over to the doorway and flipped on her lightswitch.

"What the heck?" thirteen-year-old Lily gasped as she shot up in bed.

"Good, you're up. I have a report due today. What's 'Order of the Phoenix' about?"

Lily scoffed and then shook her head.

"You seriously think I'm gonna help you with your homework? Read the book yourself, no-maj."

Lily took her pillow and shoved it over her head to block out the light.

"Fine, you brat. I'll just sparknote it."

Jen rushed back to her room and flipped open her laptop. But it wouldn't turn on. She tried again and again.

"Why won't you work?" she growled.

Then she remembered. She'd been cheerleading at a game for school that went way into overtime and she'd gone to sleep before she could plug in her laptop to charge. There was no way she could do her report before her mom got up to drive Lily to school, as her laptop took too painfully long to charge even just a little.

"Now what?" she asked as she face palmed herself.

There was no way Lily would let her use her laptop. Her mom's laptop was off-limits to either of the girls. And their office computer was currently in the shop to get an upgrade.

"Are you trying to tell me something?" she asked the universe.

Jen looked over at the big, blue book and sighed as she picked it up.

"Maybe I can ask for an extension," she said.

All of a sudden, Jen spotted something sticking out of the book. It looked like a bookmark. But why?

That's when Jen remembered. She had picked "Order of the Phoenix" for her report. She was supposed to write not just a summary and analysis of the book, but the book had to have some sort of personal significance and she had to connect a character in the book to her life.

Jen opened it to the bookmark, wondering where she had left off.
