The woman reviewed her computer screen with renewed vigor... "Ahh. that's a possibility.... Do you like to consider yourself more of the hero or the monster?" Derrick was taken aback by the question but before he could answer, "Silly me, you already answered that. Well, let's see if you are interested first." She chuckled. "We have a room separate from the main guest rooms, It's more of a one person cabin that doubles as a ranger station of sorts and is usually reserved for a staff member, though the position has been vacant for a while. Taking the room would come with a, or a list of, daily um... quests. Think of it as a themed adventure like games you play or stories you read of... your tasks would range in difficulty from helping locals to disposing of... creatures... that don't see or respect the majesty of what they are, and thereby pose a threat to the peace and tranquility that we offer. You will still have plenty of time to explore on your own and will see much more than most of our guests."
"You won't have me cooking or cleaning or anything like that would you?" Derrick asked suspiciously, not that he had much room to bargain, he didn't want to go back to his family's room, and despite the chores, the freedom was worth it.
"Oh no, these tasks are... more of a one time, situational, thing." Sensing his hesitation, she frowned and looked at the screen, "Other than that, I doubt you would be satisfied with any of our other offerings. There may be room in the barracks but that would come with more responsibilities and wouldn't afford you the independence you seek."
"You have a barracks? What for?" Derrick asked, shocked.
"For our army of course... you may get to work with them if you choose our adventure theme, or join them directly if you'd prefer. Our other attractions incorporate non-human themes which you seem to have an aversion to."
"Yes, I definitely want to continue being a human. I would think that's one of the unwritten expectations my parents have for me..."
"Your parents expected you to enjoy your stay in the Minotaur cave..." She said sternly, her expression turning dark. "But thankfully we seem to have three options available for you, the Barracks, the Outpost, or back to your parents' room."
