You can't help but look shocked as you take in the sight of the two elephant men standing in front of you. Both of them are wearing extra-large polo shirts and khaki shorts that hang below their thick legs. Their bodies are exceptionally tall at around seven and a half feet, as well as stocky and pudgy with hints of well-toned muscle. A quick glance at their peculiar, fat, four-fingered hands convinces you that these are not costumes. Finally, your eyes dart up at their faces. Their heads look exactly like the scaled-down heads of normal elephants with gigantic ears, long trunks, wrinkled grey skin and all-- well, except for their bright, intelligent eyes and their wide, tusked grins. You silently hope that there are elephant tails poking from their backs.
After a good, long stare, you realize how awkward you've made the encounter and decide to break the silence.
"Erm, h-hello there," you manage to stammer, trying your best to smile.
"Evening!", the elephant to your right says in a deep but cheery voice. The other elephant gives you a pleasant nod and a smile. "You probably don't even know who we are," the first elephant continued with a chuckle. "We moved in about a week ago, but we were a little too busy to get settled in right away..." You watch as the elephants turn their heads towards each other and rub their trunks together affectionately. It then dawns on you that they both seem to be around the same age and are wearing gigantic rings on their thick fingers. You give them a polite smile, a feeling of confidence washing over you after watching their display of nonviolent behavior.
"S-so you two are the new neighbors! Pleased to meet you both!" You try not to bring up the fact that they both defy everything you've ever known about biology. One at a time, you shake their large hands; their grips are strong, but you can tell that they're trying to be gentle.
"Pleasure to meet you as well," the elephant to your left finally says. "We're the Greys." You question in your head if it's a coincidence that their last name and the color of their elephant skin are the same. You introduce yourself to them as well and reluctantly inform them that the rest of your family is still eating inside. The elephant to your right gives a little nod and adjusts his navy blue polo.
