Then, Carrie put the light in the head of the stick like a lacrosse ball. Todd hit a button, there was a bright flash, and the whole world went suddenly silent.
The deep hum was shut off, the light glowed pleasantly inside of the lacrosse stick head, looking like nothing but a little point of portable starlight.
"Trap on," said Todd, breaking the silence. They were both out of breath and panting. "'We got one,'" he wheezed.
The fog and light around them seemed to fade. The electric feeling fizzled out gradually. The energy was clearly contained. Sunlight streamed in through the windows.
"We did it," Carrie said, amazed, as she calmed down.
"Yes we did."
"'We came, we saw, we kicked its ass!'" Carrie said and pumped her fist in the air. She gave a quick kiss to the top of Todd's head. "Well done, little guy."
Todd just chuckled, feeling slightly embarrassed. If hamsters could blush...
"It's over," Carrie said as she held up the trapped singularity.
Todd looked around. "Well," he said with a hint of concern. "It might not be quite over yet."
