Colin ran about two yards from the back of the gas station convenience store and jumped into a nearby ditch.
"Follow me!" Colin yelled as he ran down the four foot deep gap in the ground.
Seeing no reason why this couldn't work, the officer lept in as the two ran down the crevice as fast as they could. Explosions rang out within earshot as the carpet bombs impacted on the ground around the trench. The ground shook with each blast as chunks of earth went soaring into the air. The duo ran harder and harder through the crumbling earth and rising fire, until they saw the gap angling downwards.
"We're almost at the end!" Colin yelled.
"But where does it go?" the officer asked over an explosion.
The sides of the ditch started giving way.
"Who cares?! We need to ge out of here!" Colin yelled.
Colin dove forward and crawled through a three foot wide (and tall) pipe embeded in the ground.
Officer Hemendez followed him in as the ground gave way and sealed them inside.
***********
Josephine Romero Hemendez was never really squeamish easily; one story from her father told you that as a little girl, she like to play rough with her brothers in puddes of mud, and once stepped in the German Shepard's poo with only an annoyed grunt. In her teens, when a girl insulted her she punched her so hard her nose shattered, which is why she was sent to become a model citizen at her father's police academy.
But the sheer foul odor coming out from the other side of the pipe wanted to maker her puke.
"Is this the sewer?" the officer gagged and groaned.
"Afraid so..." Colin said as he exited the pipe and his shoes meet a three inch conglomerate of feces, vomit, and unrine.
"Awww sick!" the officer grimaced as her feet sloshed in the sludge.
The two saw three paths to go down: another, narrower pipe to the left, a sewer worker walkway down the middle, and another path right that ment wading in more of this disgusting filth they were standing in.
They thought it over and took the path...
