"What!?" Derrick's voice cracked as he shouted, staring wildly at the mirror and then at the gold mask of what was now his face. "No! This was just supposed to be a facial! I never agreed to lose my face! To swap out with an ugly guy!"
Randy was gaping at his own mirror, but turned to frown at Derrick. "Hey! Not nice. Anyway, you're the ugly guy now." He grinned suddenly. "You mean this is real? This is my face?"
The woman chuckled and nodded. "As I said, permanent. You can get anything you want changed on your body, but other than becoming an animal, this is what you two will look like from now on."
"No way!" Derrick scrambled out of the chair and ran into the Spa. He was bewildered and terrified - this could not be happening! "Where is Hebe? Where is the manager? I demand to be changed back!"
The lovely girl he had seen before came out from one of the side rooms. "No need to shout, young man. She looked at the gold mask he still had clutched in one hand. "Ah! You had a facial swap? I take it you were on the losing end. Did you sign the paperwork?"
"Paperwork?!" Derrick yelled. "Look at me! I'm ugly! You took my face away from me! I want it back! My parents will sue you!"
Hebe sighed and waited for him to stop shouting. "Did you sign the paperwork?" She repeated.
"Well, yeah." Derrick cleared his throat - his voice had changed. Now he sounded exactly like Randy had! No! He looked back in the mirror. Hair and voice, she had said. Sure enough, Derrick's styled brown hair had become the reddish-brown unkempt tangle that Randy had before. And she had said something about intelligence adjusting! "Please! I didn't ask for this! I want to change back!"
Hebe clucked her tongue and went over to pick up the papers Derrick had signed. "Did you read any of this? You gave us permission to make whatever changes we liked, as long as you left here with your original identity."
"But this isn't me!" Derrick felt growing panic. "No one will know who I am!"
"Derrick!" He spun as he heard a familiar voice call his name. His mother and father were coming towards him, looking concerned. "What is wrong? Why are you yelling?" His mom looked him over as if checking for injury. "Are you hurt?"
"Hurt!?" He was incredulous. "Look at me! I'm ugly!"
Both his parents blinked and looked at each other in obvious confusion. "Uh, Derrick, you are not ugly!" His dad look flustered. "I mean, we know you aren't handsome, but you look, uh, fine."
His mother flushed. "He is normally so good-natured. I am sorry if he caused trouble."
Hebe smiled. "Oh, that is fine. Sometimes boys with his, uh, limitations, can get emotional."
Limitations? What did she mean? Derrick was really confused now. His parents seemed to think he had always looked like this! "No, wait! They stole my face! They used some kind of magic, and this mask!" He showed them the gold mask, which was once again a plain face with basic features. Then he spied Randy coming out of the Spa. "There! He took my face!"
"Derrick!" His mother looked alarmed. "What is wrong with you? This is your face. It is a great face. I love you and your face just the way you are!"
Hebe looked thoughtful. "I am sorry your son seems to be upset. Perhaps you would like to leave him in daycare for a while? We have a specially trained staff for dealing with special children." She looked directly at Derrick. "I am sure that if he agrees to spend some time there, he will feel much better. Perhaps we can find ways to improve his experience here."
His parents looked doubtful, but his dad said "It's up to you, son. Do you want to visit their, uh, daycare for a while? Or we can go to our rooms. They have them ready now."
