Colin had just asked that question to the officer, who stared out when responding.
"I don't know, to be perfectly honest." she said distantly.
Colin simply stared back at the floor of the military transporter before putting his face in his hands.
"You know, I never thought things could go any lower than before I joined the force." Officer Hemendez said.
Colin looked up.
"That girl who always got in fights, was out until midnight, who.... just... it wasn't the best picture." She said.
"Looking back, I thought it was the lowest I could go, the most awful part of my life..." She continued, sighing.
"At this point, everything is awful, Officer." Colin said.
"Please, call me Josephine." the woman said.
"Okay folks, the safezone is our stop within the hour! Everyone leaves in pairs, single file!" A soldier called.
"There's one good thing about things being as fucked as they are, Josephine." Colin said.
"What?" She asked.
"Things can't get any worse..." Colin said as the transporter drove through the debris and ash of the city.
