Genie looked at the boy, "Soooooooo, what'll it be?" fully expecting Alan to be prepared to answer.
"I-I don't know, I've had a wild day to begin with, but this really puts it over the top. I can't even right now."
"Can't even what?" Genie asked, pulling a dictionary out of thin air. After rapidly flipping through the pages the dictionary disappeared and a computer appeared. After a second, apparently online, he started reading off the definition. "An expression to express that one can't express how one feels. Examples include shocked, amazed, fed up, or angry." The computer poofed out of existence as quickly as it came to be. "Aww kid, don't feel bad, I have that effect on people!"
"No Genie, its not you, I just had a really bad day and I don't know how to deal with it." Genie looked dejected that he didn't inspire awe in a human. "I mean, you're part of it too! Don't get me wrong, but your a good part but everything else was awful."
Genie immediately perked up and said, "Aww, you sit down and tell uncle Genie all about it. Maybe you'll feel better after you talk about it."
"Are you sure Genie? I-I'd like to get it all out." Alan whimpered.
"Of course..." Genie replied leading Alan to sit on the bed.
With all the passion that a disgruntled teen could muster, Alan recounted every excruciating detail in his day. Genie nodded, gasped, and listened intently to his new master as he raved, going on wild tangents making wishes without even realizing. Genie did as asked and listened to everything his master had to say before granting the wish or asking for details.
"I wish all the guys at school would just grow up... no, all schools, I'm not the only kid that gets picked on, I'm sure...", Alan reasoned out loud. "And those bullies, I wish that by the time guys entered high school we were all big muscular jocks, then those jerks wouldn't find it so easy to pick on us kids. Ugh!" "That nasty old teacher, doesn't she know the golden rule? Treat others the way you want to be treated!" 'This is yer ferst and last warning', he pantomimed. "I wish we were treated like adults without any of this lording over us... And the girls, they pitied me but wouldn't stick up for me! I wish they had their own highschool where they could just be girly and mind their own business!"
"Genie, am I crazy? Today was so awful and I just want it to be better." Alan was careful to say 'want' because he didn't want to waste a wish.
Genie smiled endearingly, "Not at all young master, I will think about a solution to your problem so don't you worry your little head!"
Alan felt comforted by Genie, and relieved, he had a friend who was helping him figure out high school and three wishes up his sleeve if things really got rough...er.
Just then his mom called, "Honey, I'm home, and I have dinner, help me set it up!"
"Genie! You need to hide! Don't let anyone find you or know that you're here!"
With that Genie disappeared back into his lamp and Alan had a disorienting thought that he was going crazy and it was all just something his brain made up to deal with the day...
"Coming Mom!" Alan cried as he left to help prepare for dinner.
After dinner Alan had homework he hadn't done, so he started them. 80 math problems, followed by a chapter in history and some biology homework... By the time he was done, it was nine and he was physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausted. The thought of his missing writing assignment nagged at him, but he pushed it aside and tried to imagine tomorrow being a good day as he drifted to sleep.
