Jimmy had been stuck in a rut as a sophomore in college for the past year. He had no girlfriend, he had no job, he had no future plans. All he knew is that he wanted something...different...in his life. After a particularly trying exam in his one of his physics classes he decided to blow off some steam at the mall. When Jimmy got to the mall he wandered around looking at all the people he would never be with, and all the things he could never have.
"If only there were real magic in this world, something that could brighten my life."
Just as this thought crossed his mind while he closed his eyes temporarily, he looked up and was startled to see that he had wandered into a musty old store. He had never seen this place in his life, and when he looked around he saw no doors to the shop. How had he gotten here, walking among the trinkets and oddities on the shelves and hanging from the ceiling?
"Welcome, WELCOME!" He heard an old scratchy voice call out from behind the counter that looked to be made of old reclaimed wood. "I can feel it in my heart, you are a true believer of magic! I am never wrong." An old Asian man stepped out from behind a bundle of what looked to be giant radishes hung from the ceiling behind the counter.
"Who...who are you, and what is this place?" Jimmy asked, still struggling to take in his surroundings.
"It is of no difference who I am young man. What is important is that I know how to help you." Replied the old Asian man.
"Oh yeah? How might you be able to help me?" Jimmy inquired.
"I just so happen to have an oddity that I am willing to part with for free, just because I know you will be able to use it to its fullest potential! Here, come to the counter!"
Something about the old man's optimism and cheer helped Jimmy overcome his concern, and Jimmy followed the man as he was told. When he got to the counter, the old man pulled something out from under the counter and set it down in front of Jimmy.
