Jennifer opened her mouth to speak, but she was interrupted just as fast. "Times up!", Kyle announces, and a tremor runs through her. "W-What, wait, no!?" she sputters, and on the other line, she just hears the compressed sounds of Kyle's wheezy laughter. "Jeez, Jen, what's gotten into you? Cold feet?" he cackles, and Jen swears she can HEAR the grin on his face. "A minute flew by and you barely even noticed! But that's okay. I don't really want to dare you--That'll just be... covering my bases." She could hear a clap on the other end. "SO, for your transformation--"
"Can you get on with this already?" she asks, getting fed up. "This... this is just a dumb joke, anyways. It's not real! Can't believe you believe this dumb curse anyways." Kyle opens up his mouth to retort, but she just keeps going. "No wonder I can't remember you. Freaks like you who believe this stuff aren't even worth remembering. I'm going to school, and I sure as hell better not see you there. Bye."
...Several, long moments pass where Jen is sure she's trying to hang up the phone, but... "...What... the fuck?" she mumbles, staring at her own arm. "Why can't I...?" "You have to listen to the terms!" Kyle answers, his voice quieter, more sinister, and Jen's preppy and spoiled blood turns ice cold. "The curse is real, Jen. And you'll know it! Because for your transformation... hrm... you really like your looks, right?" Jennifer opens her mouth-"Don't answer that. What if we flipped things around? Or what if... hmm... hm! Okay okay, this is really good."
Kyle snickers a bit more, but Jen can't even speak, actually starting to tremble a bit on her end. The curse is real? What the fuck!? "So, Jen... for your transformation, every single time you touch someone, you will trade body parts with them. It can just be one, or it can be multiple! And it can be symmetrical, or it can't be. And, and! They won't be evenly traded, either! You could have feet for hands, and that's just the beginning." "You sick fuck, what the hell-" "AND FURTHERMORE," Kyle shouts, "Everybody will know that they've been changed, but not be able to determine that you were responsible! No matter how obvious or how much it just makes sense, nobody will ever think you did it. And nobody will freak out, either, it'll be like--Like having traded parts is just a part of every day life. They can HATE the change, or they can love it, but it won't be surprising that they changed."
There's a pause. Jen hesitates, and manages, "Wh...What about the dare?"
Kyle hums. "Well, first, you'll always try to stay at least 5 feet away from ME, so we never touch. Also, you couldn't try to communicate that the changes are your fault to anyone anyways! Even if you know better, your mouth works on the same fiction as everyone else--The changes that happen are just some benevolent force in the universe nobody understands, and perfectly normal. I guess to round this all off, you'll hang up the phone, and remember the curse, but not remember that I gave it to you! I'll be a faceless, voiceless entity in your mind--Somebody that did this to you, but you don't know who."
Jen shudders. "That's all?" "Of course that's not all. I dare you to... well, how about this--You'll remember the curse and our conversation at this time, tomorrow. But until then, you'll forget allll about this. And! You'll lean into situations where you end up touching people, even if you don't mean to." At this point, Jen almost feels like rolling her eyes--If she weren't so terrified, she'd definitely be doing that. "Just get on with it, Kyle." "Oh! And you'll touch the next person you see. Bye!"
The line goes dead. Jennifer blinks, looks at her phone, and puts it down, shaking her head. "Must've been some marketer," she tells herself, trying to justify why she was holding the phone... and can't remember picking it up in the first place.
