After a week at the Institute for Conjoined People, Matt and Rex and Jeff and John had gotten comfortable with being two-headed boys, sharing a body with another person, and being around others who were in their same situation. Each of them had become good friends with several of the other test subjects, and were regularly hanging out with them all over the Institute's estate. Austin and Aaron enjoyed talking with the newbies about how to date someone with more than one head; these two brothers had had a lot of experience in that department with Nina and Randa--after all, they became conjoined so that they could remain in a relationship with the two sisters after THEY had been conjoined! That's an interesting love story, isn't it? There weren't exactly that many females at the Institute; apparently, the volunteers for the teleporter experiment had been mostly guys. There were also no male/female fusions there: regardless of form or head count, all subjects resulting from the experiments were either fully male or fully female. Not only that, but when the four first arrived here, they were only the forty-seventh and forty-eighth results of the experiment. Since most of the residents were male(s), there was not exactly a lot of dating to do. However, there was also the possibility that other test subjects would arrive sooner or later, and they would be able to become friends as well.
One of the things that the newbies had trouble with was limb movement: at first, both pairs had decided to allow one to control legs and the other control arms. After some time at the Institute, with help from their new friends, each head was able to control arms and legs with or without the other successfully. It was a good thing, because they were going to be conjoined siblings for their foreseeable futures. Of course, there were also things that no one could have foreseen...
While hanging out with Leo, Donnie, Raph, and Mikey, Jeff and John stumbled upon a hidden door. It was a double door, so their wide body was able to walk straight in. Inside, they found a bunch of machines, all of them looked perfectly cared for and maintained. At first, they couldn't make out what the machines were, until they saw the teleporters. The machines must be used for the experiments of the scientists back home!
The two told their four-headed friend(s), and word quickly and quietly got around to the other test subjects at the Institute. Soon enough, they all gathered in that space, shutting the doors in case any of the staff would want to stop them. The group first tried examining each machine to determine what exactly it did; after a while, they had discovered that the machines could also undo the various transformations that everyone had gone through, as well as extend or modify the changes. To test these theories, ten of the subjects--the ones that were not named in the previous chapter--went through various machines; when each emerged, they had been restored to their former appearances. The man with sixteen legs undid his transformation as well, along with the tall guy and the one with a snake tail for legs. The two-headed man with three legs did the same; it turns out he had been a single, normal guy, having obtained his extra leg and head due to a malfunction in the experiment he went through--the same was said for the four-armed man when he undid his. Two more guys rid themselves of having four legs and six arms, respectively. This left thirty-one bodies with a combined total of seventy-one heads. While the restored people left the room to gather their things and leave, the others stayed, wondering if they should go through the machines as well, and what they would do.
