Two shops had been open in the town of Little, Ohio since the town was first created in the late 1900: Rifty's 99 Cent Knick-Knacks and Mage and More. They were opened by young brothers and were originally fantastic business partners, but turned to business rivals by the turn of the century. They were both fierce competitors, and seemed like they would be forever, but after the passing of Jonathan Rifty, Mage and More was shut down and it's items were sold off to pay for funeral expenses. Alexander Rifty had bought several items back and sold them in his store to co-fund his brother's funeral. Ever since then, the 99 cent store had been booming, and sold off a lot of the items within the first month. Alex was happy he was able to pay for his brother John's funeral, with no out of pocket expenses too.
Gabriel Newfield was new in town as of last week, yet had already managed to get on literally everyone's bad side. The jocks picked on him for his 3.9 GPA and flabby physique. The nerds rejected him for his semi arrogant personality and crude sense of humor. Every girl at school, even the ugly ones, laughed at him as if he was trash. He had gotten banned from half the school building and wasn't even allowed to eat in the cafeteria. He was constantly getting blamed for the bad kids actions by the bad kids as they always saw him as an easy way to get out of punishment. He was already considering running away back to his home town of Maple Creek where he was the most popular kid in his old school. He hated his new life and wanted to go back to normal. The only good thing about the move was that his parents were rich now. They moved to anew city for Jo that payed around 10 grand a month. They were already payed 50K just for accepting the job and moving to Little, which gave them some spending money for the first few months. His mom was aware Gabe's misfortunes at school and game him $100 to spend on whatever he wanted to.
The first place that caught Gabe's eyes was a big store called "Rifty's 99 Cent Knick Knacks". He scoffed at the name "Yeah, more like $1.07 with tax." Still, it was the best place he had seen, and it seemed like everything was gonna be cheap. He stepped through the doors, and what he saw was stunning. The store stretched so far back he could barely see the opposite wall. Huge aisles of stuff were lined up and there were so many, at least 100, maybe more. He quickly spotted an aisle for electronics, which he was surprised that it existed, and even then, that it was stocked to the brim with expensive $100 electronics, all marketed at about a dollar or cheaper. How could they afford these and still sell them for less than a dollar? And how was nobody going through dumping everything in the aisle into their cart and still not peaking a thousand dollars. The faint smell of a nearby food court wafted into his nose and cool air from the a/c blasted his face. He checked again to make sure he hadn't accidentally walked into a mall or a WalMart, yet there it was. "99 Cent Knick Knacks". The only way that anything in the store could count as a "Knick Knacks" was it they were thousands of years in the future and all this technology was implanted into every human at birth.
One aisle in particular caught his interest. It was dark and mysterious, as the lights above it were either off or broken, replaced by faint black light from certain objects. The sign read "Aisle 9: Mage and More items." Looking down the aisle, it did have the semblance of witchcraft. Wands, robes and amulets lined the walls, each stating it did something fascinating. Rancid potion ingredients kept in airtight seals took up a large portion of the aisle. Even some things Game couldn't label were there. He purveyed the creepy aisle until one item in particular piqued his interests.
