"Did you dye your hair? I like it." Travis looks at you expectantly. You nod. You want to let him do the talking, you're afraid you'll let something on otherwise. "You know, we've been seeing each other for a few weeks now, [name], and I just wanted to let you know... I like you a lot. And whenever you're ready to take the next step..." Travis punctuates this last point with a smile, and places a hand on your hip for good measure. You kiss, briefly but passionately.
As you pull back, opening your eyes, you look at your boyfriend. His features are gentle, but handsome. Thin, dark eyebrows sit on top of his steely gray eyes. He squints a little when he smiles. He has prominent cheekbones, which are covered with a light brown stubble, matching the sandy hair on his head. His teeth have a little gap in the middle, but you find it charming. His hair is a little long, something you liked about him as soon as you saw him. He's wearing it up in a short ponytail now, but if he let it hang loose it would drop just past his chin. He's thin; you haven't seen much of his body, except his arms, which look relatively strong. He says it's because he used to be a drummer, but he had to stop playing to pursue a career in business. He seems to favor simple, stylish clothes, crisp linen dress shirts and once, when you went to the park together, a polo. Thinking about it, he always seems to wear dressy khaki pants with a fashionable cut. You wonder if he even owns another kind of pants... you'll definitely have to check if he ever invites you over.
You focus in on the situation at hand. Travis is waiting for you to say something... right. "You know, Travis. I feel the same way. I'm absolutely ready to move forward, but.." you say, gently pulling his hand off your hip. Travis frowns a little. "I called in sick to work today. MAJOR migraine. If you're free later tonight, how about we pick things up then? I can get some rest, take a couple painkillers, and be good as new." His expression brightens when he hears this. "Yes, I'm free after work. Sorry to hear you're not feeling well, babe. You know, come to think of it, you ARE acting a little strangely." You put your hand on his shoulder. "I hope midnight isn't too late? You can always stay over as well."
You smile, proud of your stroke of genius. Assuming the ring resets at midnight, you'll be able to give the tattoos back without Travis being any the wiser. Then you just have to avoid getting some crazy replacement feature. You could always consider keeping them too. if Travis notices you can just insist they've always been there. It's not like tattoos can appear overnight. Well, usually. If he buys it, that would leave your use of the ring free. And maybe if you're careful, that could have some exciting results in the bedroom...
You say goodbye to Travis, giving him a hug and a peck on the cheek on his way out. "See you later, [name]."
You spend the day doing chores and trying to come to a decision. You take a nap, and before you know it it's quarter to midnight. You're setting up the apartment, lighting candles, queuing up Netflix , taking a bottle of wine out of the freezer. All you have to do is get dressed, and make a decision. You're not worried though, you've made up your mind to...
