The Magic Shop

Changing hands once again

added 6 years ago O

Robby took a whiff of the perfume, sniffing the top of the open bottle. He couldn't smell anything. What kind of perfume was this? Robby didn't have much use for perfume. He had planned on maybe giving it to his girlfriend Sarah, but he doubted she would want it if it didn't smell nice. He thought perhaps he could sell it if Sarah didn't like it. Robby placed the cap back on the bottle and set it on the living room end table. Then he fired up his game console and began playing another session of his favorite game, Dark Souls, on the television in the living room.

Robby was really getting his game when Amy stirred from her sleep. She rubbed her eyes and sat up on the couch. She was a little annoyed her brother was using the television to play a game, but in his defense she had fallen asleep. Amy was about to retreat to her room to play when she saw the perfume sitting on the end table.

"Hey, what's the this?" asked Amy.

Robby continued to stare at the screen with intense focus, mashing buttons as he fought a fierce digital battle.

"What's what? What are you talking about?"

"This, " said Amy, holding in the bottle in her hands. "This bottle?"

Robby cast a quick glance over his shoulder then turned back to the television screen.

"Oh, that. It's just some perfume I found in the park today, " said Robby with annoyance.

"Perfume? Can I have it?" asked Amy with excitement.

Robby rolled his eyes. Even though Amy had just turned eight, she was already obsessed with makeup, earrings, clothes and all that other girly stuff.

"No. I am going to give it to Sarah when I see her tomorrow," said Robby.

"But she has loads of perfume. Can't I just have this one bottle? Please?" begged Amy. "Pretty, pretty please?"

Robby loudly cursed as his character died on the screen, killed as a result of Amy's distraction.

"Fine! You can have it! Just as long as you take it and get out of here!" shouted Robby.

He would have done anything just to get Amy to leave him alone so he could play the game. Sarah probably wouldn't have wanted it anyway. It didn't smell nice. It didn't really smell like anything.

Amy ignored Robby's outburst, holding her new treasure tightly against her chest. She ran up the stairs to her room with a large smile on her face.

As soon as Robby heard Amy close the door to her room, he restarted the game and began another session. He didn't care what Amy was going to do in her room with that perfume, as long as it was quiet. But he doubted it would be as exciting as his own game.
