Kevin led Shaggy down one of the park trails, but they hadn't gone very far when they met a woman leading a yellow lab on a leash.
Kevin watched as Shaggy met his first dog. The two dogs approached each other with some caution, and after a fleeting look into the lab's eyes, Shaggy contorted himself around to give the lab's butt a sniff.
"You do have control of your dog, young man, don't you?" The woman asked as the lab danced away from Shaggy's none-too-subtle advances.
Jared had been counting down how soon he could get home and change back into human form when a wave of something hit him with such force his human mind got swamped by the resulting tidal wave of scent.
Pant! Pant! His tongue lolled out of his mouth as he kept sniffing around the lab. Sniff. Sniff! The source of the scent was the other dog, and he couldn't get enough of it.
Kevin tried to rein in the slack in the leash. "Jared... I mean Shaggy... stop it!"
The woman tried to move her dog along the trail.
"He's just a little excited," Kevin said, looking away from the dogs to the frowning woman. When he looked back, he felt mortified to see Jared trying to awkwardly move his sheepdog body into position to hump the lab.
The woman snapped back the leash, almost causing Shaggy to fall face-first into the gravel of the walking trail. "Young man, may I suggest you not bring your animal back onto these trails if you can't control him!"
In a huff, woman and lab departed, leaving Shaggy looking disappointed.
"Jared, what were you doing?" Kevin chided.
The scolded dog whimpered and looked so forlorn that Kevin relented and, instead of heading for home, continued to walk Shaggy along the trail. Shaggy let his nose lead the way as he sniffed at every spot he could find that had been visited by the yellow lab.
