Matt figured it would be difficult to keep hiding the Chronivac from his dad now that he'd spotted it.
"Actually, dad, someone delivered it this morning. It's a device called a Chronivac. It claims it can transform people into almost anything," Matt admitted.
"Did you buy this?" Mike questioned.
"No, I swear I didn't," replied Matt. "I didn't even know this existed. I don't know how it got sent to me."
Mike was still wary of this mysterious delivery. He trusted Matt to tell the truth, and if Matt didn't know where it came from, would it be wise to tamper with it? But Mike was still curious about the package. "I see... have you opened it? What's inside?"
Matt moved his chair aside to reveal the computer screen and the emitter. "There was some weird letter, a CD with this program on it, and this device. I think it works, but I haven't done anything much with it." Matt gestured to the open program window. Wanting to get a closer view, Mike walked over and peered at the computer screen. It didn't look like much at first, but something on the screen caught his eye.
"Matt, is that my name?" Mike pointed the screen, which showed his name just below Matt's.
Matt nodded and moved his mouse over. "When I opened the program, it said it started scanning, and my name appeared, followed by yours, and then Mom's... In fact, the program knows more than just your name." He clicked on his dad's name, and a 3D model of Mike appeared next to Mike's profile, which listed all sorts of details about Mike.
Mike was taken aback by this, unable to figure out how the program could have so much information on him.
His thoughts were interrupted by Matt. "That's not all. I found this menu too." Matt moved the cursor to point at the transformation menu on the other side. Clicking on it displayed many different categories of transformations. "This was probably what the letter referred to. It looks like there are a lot of options."
Armed with the knowledge of the Chronivac's potential, Mike and Matt wondered what they could do with it.
