As soon as Evelyn hit the water, Mary Lou jumped in after her, wanting to use the canals to be able to put some more distance between the two and their human pursuers. Grabbing Evelyn and holding her in her scaly arms, Mary Lou braces herself against the rushing current of sewer water as it carried them quickly away.
Meanwhile, the effects of the vials had started to kick in, causing Evelyn to become drowsy and her mind a bit hazy. Had the two looked closed enough, they would have seen that Mary Lou had unexpectedly swiped a few other vials with the experimental hormones. The ones that Mary Lou had injected Evelyn with just so happened to be an experimental sedative that would make transporting and caring for the alligators easier. Being untested however, meant that the side effects were not known, even to the scientists who made it.
It became evident that the sedative had some mental side effects as Evelyn's thoughts became harder to make out and her memories a bit blurred. She looked up to realize that she was in the arms of someone else. It appeared to be a human=like alligator, that much she knew. But soon, her face began to surface the word, 'sister'
'Was this person... my sister?' Evelyn tried to think in her hazy mind. She then looked down a bit, as much as her snout could allow her to, noticing that her body looked just like the one holding her, scales, tails and all.
'She must be... I guess that means that I'm an alligator, too...' she thought before drifting off into unconsciousness. As she did, her sedated mind began rewriting her memories to fit her appearance, even imprinting Mary Lou into her memories. Her knowledge on alligators seemed to have imprinted onto her as well, as 'memories' began surfacing of being born an human-alligator alongside Mary Lou. The two had been born in the zoo, while their mother was sent off elsewhere. While Mary Lou had resented the zoo, Evelyn was less aggressive and more caring for her sister.
Her mind continued to rewrite itself as they continued down the canal, until it finally slowed and Mary Lou was able to pull the two out from the water.
