Jeff thought it over. Even with the awareness off, the sight of three puddles of living flesh oozing across whatever distance they cover to meet each other will certainly cause alarm. And there's the chance something could happen to Sasha, Amy, or his mom while they were in that vulnerable state that could cause a lot of damage. The safest way would be to get Sasha over here so she could merge safely with his family members. Well, that was easy enough. He got his cell phone and called Sasha.
She was quick to answer. "Hey Jeff, what's up?" she asked.
"Hey, Sasha, you want to hang out for a bit at my house?" asked Jeff, "There's this TV show I've been meaning to show you."
"Sure, I'll be over as soon as I'm done with practice. See you later," said Sasha.
"Later," said Jeff before hanging up. Well, that was simple. Once Sasha got her, she'll merge with his mom and sister to become his slightly older girlfriend of...
Jeff paused at that. Just how old will Sasha become after the merging process? He knew it was supposed to be some kind of middle ground, but what exactly would that be? He checked the Chronivac program to see what it said about merging.
'When subjects of different ages are merged together, the age of the fusion is the cumulative number of years of both subjects divided by the number of subjects. For two-party merges, the new age is the combined age divided by two. For three-party merges, if one pair has already merged, then the new age would be the combined age of the first fusion and the second subject divided by two. If all three are merged simultaneously, the new age is the combined age of all subjects divided by three.'
Well, that was a bit more math homework than Jeff suspected. But it wasn't too hard to figure it out. He wrote down the figures on a piece of paper:
Sasha=16
Irene=43
Amy=5
(Sasha + Irene) + Amy = ~15
(Sasha + Amy) + Irene = ~26
(Irene + Amy) + Sasha = 20
Sasha + Irene + Amy = ~21
Jeff almost wished his mother and sister had rounder ages to work with, but the results looked satisfactory. But clearly the order in which the three girls merged would have different end results regarding ages. One result would make Sasha a little younger than Jeff, one would make him significantly older, and only one had a definitely round number. It left Jeff to ponder which order he should have them merge in.
