"Actually, can we talk about what just happened to us first?" Tanya said with the huge grin still on her face.
"I'm sorry Tanya." Derrick said, his pointy ears drooping a bit to show he was sad in spite of the permanent huge grin on his face "I had no idea I was infected, and I had no idea I'd infected you too."
"It's okay." Tanya said as she put her hand on his shoulder "You didn't know. Besides, I feel so much magical joy in my heart that I don't care that I'm a kid again....or an elf! I'm sure you must feel that same joy in your heart too, right?"
At this, Derrick's ears perked back up, and he was truely happy again. "So you're not mad?" he asked her.
"Not at all." Tanya told him "I feel so good inside that I can't keep it all to myself - I must share it with everyone! I'm sure that's how you must feel too,......and all the other elves.....our brothers and sisters......must feel this same way too! That's why they....why WE want others who aren't elves yet to join us.....so that they too can know how good this feels! Hee-hee-hee!"
"I know what you mean, Tanya!" Derrick replied with an excited look on his smiling elf face "I feel the happiness in every part of me - from the tips of my ears and my nose, all the way down to my feet! Even my clothes are filled with happiness! Hee-hee-hee!"
As both looked at eachother with huge grins, they both spoke in unison "We must share this with everyone! They must know how good this feels!
Though....it's not like we're trying to take over the world or anything....not at all!
All we want is for everyone to be happy!
That's what we elves want.
This is so weird, but cool - we know eachothers' thoughts now......there are no secrets between us......and why should there be?
Friends don't keep secrets from eachother.
Our minds are in perfect sync.
I think it's because we love eachother so much.
Maaan.......having this.......sorta hive-mind....will take some getting used to, but it's okay.
Can.....you.......just.......imagine if all were like this......no secrets, and only friendship and trust."
As they looked at eachother, they continued in unison "We can't stop smiling, but why would we want to stop? Hee-hee-hee! We love being elf kids!"
Since they knew eachother's thoughts, they didn't need to ask eachother questions. They smiled and nodded, for the already knew what they wanted to do.
So they got up holding hands, and then..... they ran outside to make snow angels, build snowmen, and even had a snowball fight with eachother! It ended in a draw, but they didn't really care who won, because they'd already won eachother's hearts.
The snow didn't even feel cold to them at all....in fact, they felt comforting warmth instead. They belived that it was their elvish happiness that was making them so warm on the inside.
They even built their own igloo just big enough for the two of them. They crawled inside, and through their own elf magic it was much larger on the inside than on the outside. They decorated it with tinsel, lights, and all manner of Christmas decor - they just couldn't help themselves!
When they were done, they sat down in the center of it all next to eachother, and admired their elvish handiwork.
Tanya and Derrick. These two seven-year-old elves believed that they made a great team.
Just then.....
