"Hey, Kate, can I borrow the ring for a while?" asked Lisa.
"What for?" asked Katie.
"I'm gonna hang out with Kumi for a while," said Lisa.
"And what does the ring have anything to do with your plans with Kumiko?" asked Katie.
Lisa shrugged and said, "Haven't thought of any yet. I just want to keep it an option."
Katie sighed. Her sister was not known for being the self-moderating type and neither was Kumiko. Leaving them alone with the ring would be a recipe for disaster. "If you're taking the ring, I'm going with it. Someone has to be the voice of reason between you two," said Katie.
"Great idea, you could stand to loosen up some," said Lisa. Katie rolled her eyes a bit. Next to Lisa and Kumiko, anyone would look up-tight.
The sister headed over to the Tozawa house, which was quite a bit different because of the new reality. It got hit by the rewrite pretty hard. For starters, Kumiko was no longer the grandmother or even aunt of Mika, but her identical twin sister. Quite a few things got warped from there. Instead of being the second generation of immigrants who had much contempt for anyone non-Asian, the Tozawas have been in America for many generations now and have assimilated a lot more into the American melting pot. As a matter of fact, they've been trying to reconnect with their Japanese roots lately. In short, they were a lot more open-minded than they had been before, accepting their daughter's wish to date a white girl. Another alteration was that Shiro was now 18 years old and a senior at Katie and Lisa's high school. He was admired by many of the girls there, particularly Ashley and Jennifer.
But neither Katie nor Lisa were aware of anything different now. So they walked up to the Tozawas' door and knocked. It was soon answered by Kumiko. Both Kumiko and her twin were very pretty with long chestnut hair and fit bodies. Their perky breasts showed very good signs of becoming larger than the norm for Asian people when they were fully mature. Kumiko showed off that feature with the tank top she was wearing. She also had a very bright stripe of red in her hair and very flashy bracelets. "Hey girls, c'mon in!" said Kumiko excitedly.
"Hey Kumi. Is Mika here?" asked Lisa as they went in.
"No, she's out with Claudia," said Kumiko, "Shiro's at swim practice and Mom and Dad are at a meeting. So I got the place to myself for now." Katie reflected that Kumiko acted out a lot mostly to differentiate herself from Mika and keep them from being too identical. But now that Mika was with Claudia, Kumiko seemed to miss her twin more.
"Great, then we can have some real fun," said Lisa, holding up her hand with the ring on it. After finding the ring, Katie and Lisa had told their ring of close friends, which included the Tozawa twins.
"Awesome!" said Kumiko, "I can't wait to start." Katie rolled her eyes. Just what had she gotten herself into?
