On an impulse you quickly grab the ring and take it with you, shoving it into your pocket as you leave the scene, constantly checking your back in case anyone or thing might be following you. After about thirty minutes you enter your college apartment, locking the door behind you and turning on the lights as you feel your heart pulsing.
You take a moment to take deep breaths, slowing yourself down, before heading into your small but homely bedroom, flicking on the lights before sitting down on the edge of your bed, reaching into your pocket to pull out the gem to give it a more through examination.
Under the electric light, the gem only seemed to be more mysterious. It gave off a strange dark aura, as if it was absorbing the light itself naturally as you held it in your palm. Squeezing it would cause it to distort slightly under your pressure but once you stopped, you found it would instantly resume back into it’s original shape. You also found by accident as you admired it, that with concentration, the gem would slowly change into whatever color you were thinking of. As you experimented more with this ability, you found that it could shift into every color you could think of. Within seconds it could go from red to green to brown and even white, simply by you focusing.
“What are you?” You whisper, slightly berating yourself for talking to a gem.
After playing with it for about half an hour, you hide the gem in your drawer, and after brushing your teeth, go to bed. Before falling asleep you quickly check the new on your tv, making sure there wasn’t any news about you or the gem before you slept. While you didn’t find anything about yourself, several news channels were talking about a string of multiple disappearances happening close by to your area.
Hopefully that doesn’t have anything to do with those weird latex monsters. You think to yourself before falling asleep.
