At which point you just had to go
"Ah Ah Ah Choo!" and whatever gold dust ws on your thumb got swpt away by your sneeze.
Frantically you looked at the kitchen floor and though you
didn't see gold dust or a pill lying there
you did see a WHOPPER
a gold coloured one ( a large gumball)
and you picked it up.
It had the image of a winged dragon printed on its golden surface
in edible black food colouring and
clearly this was no
ordinary WHOPPER.
However your mom had told you to not eat
gumballs you found lying on the ground
so at first you just licked at the fingers that had
held it.
It was the sweetest most gooden taste you'd ever had,but with a bit of spicy afterburn
to its sugary afterglow.
For 1934,this was a WHOPPER to make your bigger issues
go away for a while.
However, being 1934,that meant you were a 11 year old girl ,a tomboy, trying to survive in a tough world.
The Depression had finally come to your insulated country of Pangia two years earlier
and your dad was on the verge of losing his farm to the
Bank, which had given him 2 weeks notice.
Your dad was planning to join the rest of the men riding the rails in hopes of
finding a job to the West.
The reason you'd been to the old Park was because you'd heard
wild stories of a treasure
being buried there
and you'd hoped to find the treasure
pay of the Bank
keep the farm
keep your family together
and perhaps live
happily ever after.
Instead what you'd got was a talking oil lamp
and a WHOPPER with the picture of a winged dragon printed
on its golden surface.
