Jared was shocked to discover that magic actually worked but he didn't know that it was the medallion that did this. Still, he tried stripping off everything that might have caused this. He lowered his head until the medallion slipped off and fell to the ground. Then he tried to wash himself but he couldn't turn the sprinklers on. The best he could do was roll in the grass and hope the grass rubbed whatever off of him.
"A pony? Dad finally got a new pony?" Jared heard his younger brother Kevin scream. Kevin was twelve. He raced into the stable and gathered the gear.
Jared tried to speak but all that came out was whinny and neigh. As Kevin tried to put the saddle on Jared, Jared backed away but where could he go? Finally, he decided that if Kevin was going to have his first horse ride, Jared better make sure he does it properly. Jared whinnied and neighed.
Kevin asked, "What's wrong boy? Don't you want to be ridden?"
Jared went over and picked up the blanket with his teeth.
"Oh, you want the blanket first, then the saddle."
Coaching Kevin in this way, Kevin got Jared saddled appropriately and then took him out for a ride. Jared was surprised that he found the ride enjoyable. It was like hiking but Jared didn't get tired. Even when he galloped, he could go faster and farther than a human and he still had energy. He really enjoyed crossing a stream without having to worry about wearing wet clothes. His coat just drip dried naturally.
But it was time to go home. His parents should be home soon and maybe they can help him become human again.
