Paul Anderson grinned, as he opened Thomas Harrison's dryer. He was tempted to touch Thomas' clothes, but he knew better. He had a completely different mission than stealing someone else's underwear or casting a spell on them.
Two weeks ago, Paul had been sitting in the back of the town's school pub. He'd been in one of those high backed pews, and had gone unnoticed and unseen by the nearby table of college professors. He listened carefully, and overheard about the curse on the dryers. Professor Marcus was miffed that no one had been cloned or disappeared yet. He was questioning whether Dean Asmodeus had cast the spell correctly. The Assistant Dean Robespierre was most adamant that the spell was properly cast.
Then a junior professor asked, "What will happen if someone leaves a stray sock or briefs in the dryer, and it gets mixed in with someone else's load?"
"Huh?" said Marcus, "Well, the way the spell should work would be to turn that person into a clone, right, Robespierre?"
"Well, I suppose. I will check with the dean, to see if maybe the spell could be altered to prevent clothing left in the dryer prior to putting other putting others would not be effected. Only the last clothing put in the dryer would be effected?"
The junior also started to ask about roommates who share the laundry mixing their clothing, and asking about clothing found in the dryer, but the next round of stout arrived, and the conversation turned.
Anderson grinned as he held the sock he had washed earlier. It was still damp. He tossed it into Harrison's dryer, and restarted it. He would wait for the fireworks to begin tomorrow. The student body president was due to address the entire student body and faculty, along with the dean as to the state of the college.
Paul headed to bed. He was so excited, he had trouble falling asleep.
