She woke up to the sound of her heartbeat.
Beep. Beep. Beep.
Then she realized something. The sound was not coming from her ears but the.... heart rate monitor? Its almost as though she could sense the heart rate monitor itself.
She couldn't open her eyes for some reason, but realized that she could use the camera in the room to look at herself. She looked.... normal?
"Ashley... are you there?"
She turned the camera to look at the person in front of her. It was the director.
"Ashley?"
Ashley tried to open her mouth, but nothing happened. She decided to use his phone instead. Looking through the camera, she watched as the director's phone rang. He picked it up.
The caller's name was Ashley.
"Hello?"
"Hey director, the phone said in Ashley's voice."
"Oh my god Ashley, you're alive!"
"Indeed, but I want to know what happened to me?"
"Well, we were monitoring your vitals and the oxygen levels in your brain were dangerously low, and we could detect that you loss consciousness, so we devolved you and put you here. It's interesting though, that you can still control technology.
"Yeah, that's strange. I can also still think in different languages but all the knowledge from wikipedia I read is gone."
"Interesting."
The director continued.
"It seems as though your hyper-evolved self left small bits and pieces of your consciousness throughout all the technology in the world, so now you have some sort of innate connection to them." He said.
"Cool." Ashley answered.
"Well, I am going back to evaluate the results. Don't strain your brain to much Ashley. While we estimate you still possess 5 times the mental capability of an ordinary person, that amount is still nothing compared to what you had at your peak."
"How much did I have at my peak?" Ashley asked.
"Well your brains kept evolving to keep up with all the new information entering it, and we estimate that at your peak, you had more than double the brain capacity of all humankind combined."
"Woah." Ashley said.
"Indeed woah." The director said.
"Now, rest up. I am going back to review the results."
And with that, he left.
