It was quarter past 9 as I pushed the door open and entered my temporary home. I could hear the TV running in the lounge so stuck my head in to say hi to Mum and Dad, letting them know I was home.
I then walked down the hall to my room intending to dump my bag and freshen up. I saw the door already open and the light on. There was Jenna, Sarah's sister sorting through the clothes in my or should I say Sarah's wardrobe. She heard me coming and turned around holding two tops still on their hangers.
"Hello little sister, I like these, they will go well with that skirt you gave me last week"
"Hi Jenna, what are you doing?"
"What do you think? Replenishing my wardrobe" She smirked at me "Next time you go shopping buy something blue. It's my colour"
She saw the earrings I was wearing "Where have you been hiding those? I'll have them later" She then pushed past me carrying the two tops. Once she was out of the room she turned and said "Mum insisted I return the dress I borrowed for Saturday. You will need to wash it" She then disappeared into her own room locking the door behind herself.
I then noticed a pile of clothes thrown on the floor. Sure enough it was the same silver dress that Jenna had worn to the engagement dinner on Saturday. I picked it up, it was covered in grass stains. What was going on. Was this Jenna's normal behavior?
I heard a knock on the door it was Mrs Mckenzie, my 'Mum' for the next couple of days. "Show it to me Sarah" indicating the dress. I handed it to her. "I'll get it dry cleaned.......... I'm sorry sweetie. I'll get Ted to put a lock on your door. Come down and have a cup of tea with me"
"Ok Mum, I just need to visit the toilet"
When I got to the kitchen 'Mum' had a cup of tea ready for me. "Did she take anything else this time"
"She took two tops and said she will take these earrings later"
'Mum' looked at me as I sipped my tea. "I don't like saying this to my own daughter but I think for your own sake you need to move in with Rod, I know he wants you to. Jenna has serious problems, unfortunately you are the same size and she thinks she can take anything she wants. Your father and myself want to do what we can for her and the psychologist says she is best off at home. We are her parents but you have your own life and can do without this sort of stress" She then gave me a hug. Sensing her mood I gave her a daughterly hug back.
Knowing that Rod had been keen for Sarah to move in I was happy to make the move. Certainly I could see many reasons that Sarah might want to move and none not to. So I said to 'Mum' "Mum. he has put a ring on my finger and I do want to live with Rod, so if I have your blessing and Dad's I want to do so" We had another hug and 'Mum' started reminiscing about when Sarah was a little girl.
'Dad' walked in "Hi Sarah"
"Hi Dad"
'Mum' said "Jenna's been borrowing Sarah's clothes again. I've just told Sarah that I think it best if she moves out, or should I say in with Rod. I just feel she will be better off, so long as Jenna is living here"
"Well it is 2018" said Dad. "Cohabiting with your fiancé is the done thing nowadays. It is not as if you won't be nearby"
"Thanks Dad. I appreciate you saying that. I'll start taking stuff over tomorrow"
'Dad' gave me a hug "Good night Sarah, I'm off to bed"
"Me too" I replied.
As I was lying in bed I thought about my current predicament. I could understand Sarah not telling me about Jenna's problems. I couldn't imagine why she had not already moved in with Rod, I could see the upsides but no downside, but the McKenzie's were not my real family. I would fill the car in the morning with her valuables and enough clothes for the next few days. Once she was back in her own body she could complete the move over the weekend. I also wondered how Rod would feel, I had made the decision without consulting him. Surely he would be happy. Would he reward me with a cuddle? I'm not sure at which stage I stopped thinking and started dreaming
