Kyle sighed in boredom. He was bored to death by history, and today was no different. Kyle was a freshman in high school. He didn't have many friends. He was nerdy, and extremely jealous of an athletic boy in his class, Dyami. He had everything: Muscles, Ladies, and was incredibly funny and motivated. Kyle had none of that. He was unenthusiastic, he couldn't focus in his classes, and girls would never notice him. But when Susan had helped him pick up is books... she was so pretty. Looking for something to do, Kyle sorted his books, trying to look as if he was paying attention, and trying to look busy. Suddenly, though, he notices a sheet in between his books - a questionnaire. It had Susan's hand-writing. Kyle's heart fluttered, thinking she had written him a letter. When he read it, though, he was disappointed. It was a simple "When I grow up..." questionnaire. Not a love letter, not a "see if we're compatible"... nope, just a stupid questionnaire. It looked like it was copied out of a magazine.
Dear Kyle,
Suddenly, the letter had his full attention. It was written for him. What could be happening? What could it say? Could it be a fun ice-breaker for Susan and him?
What will you be when you grow up? Fill out these questions, and find out...
1. When You Grow Up... What kind of activities will you enjoy?
Kyle sat there, thinking for a while, trying to think... what would he enjoy when he grows up? Then... he had a thought. What if... what if he lied? What if he described exactly what Susan would want in a man?
I will be an athlete. Specifically, I will play soccer. I will be on the Seattle Sounders. I will also enjoy other sports and athletic activities, like going to the gym.
Kyle smiled, satisfied. He knew Susan had a thing for soccer players. He didn't notice his plain polo shirt being replaced by a sounders jersey.
2. When You Grow Up... Who will you be dating (if anyone)?
Kyle didn't hesitate at all here.
When I grow up, my girlfriend will be Susan. I will be her dream man, and we will get married.
3. When You Grow Up... What will your name be?
Kyle was confused by this one. Most people kept their names throughout their lives. Again, though, he decided to change reality to appeal to Susan. He didn't notice he now knew a lot more about her.
My name will be Evan.
He, again, smiled at this answer. He knew Susan loved the name Evan, and making it his own name would make her love him even more.
4. When You Grow Up... Wait, how old will you be? How tall will you be?
Evan was once again confused. Doesn't grow up imply age? Nonetheless, he answers the question.
Me and Susan are both seniors in high school, about to graduate. I'll be pretty muscular, with huge pecs and biceps. As for height...
He paused here. He was about to write 6'5, when he remembered Susan wasn't like most girls... no, she liked short guys.
I'll be 5'2, six inches shorter than Susan. My height will make my muscles and my huge size 13 feet look even bigger, compared to my height.
He closed his eyes. When he opened them, he was again in his Biology class. He could barely see his teacher in front of the hulking 6' giants around him, but if they ever upset him, they all knew he could beat them up... he smiled, and felt his melon-sized pecs, and his cantaloupe biceps.
5. Where's your family from?
Evan knew that Susan did not very much like his boring, English ancestry. So, once again, he wrote something else...
My parents immigrated from Chile in 1984, and moved to Seattle just before I was born.
Unknown to him, his skin darkened, his eyes went brown, and his hair turned black. His face adjusted slightly, giving him a more latino look.
Pass this note on to someone else before the end of the day to have a good life.
Evan looked up. It was 3. Time to go to practice. He needed to practice daily. He was on the Seattle sounders, after all. He was looking forward to this evening, he was taking Susan out for dinner. He had bought a ring, he was proposing. He knew most people waited longer before proposing to someone, but he and Susan had been together since grade 9, and they were so happy together. Evan was exactly what she wanted, and Susan was exactly what he wanted.
Evan ran off to his locker, getting ready for practice.
